Overdrive/Distortion that separates the signal into separate frequencies before clipping?

There's also one called Blüe Monster, by Vallhagen. It's not triple band, though, just two. Uses a cd4049 for generating distortion

    "Rockerverb" with fets for tubes

For the time being, the plan is to build a single one, but even if I decide to build another, it's a simple circuit to breadboard and bias

What would you use to sub a j201

I've been using 2sk304-C in place of J201 with good results. Not all of them will work perfectly, but a lot will For me, 2SK118-R are easier to find, and they are the same jfet in a different package With through hole 2sk fets you just have to mind the pinout (typically dgs instead of dsg)

    "Rockerverb" with fets for tubes

I tend to take the same approach regarding the ground plane, but I've read somewhere that it could cause ground loops sometimes... I've biased the jfets on my breadboard. Q1, Q3 and Q4 are actually pretty matched, that's why the drain resistors have the same value, and as I'm taking it from...

Nice, will do that! Thanks! Will double check and etch tomorrow

    "Rockerverb" with fets for tubes

Board is designed: It could be made smaller, but I have a 1590bb waiting to be used. I don't have much experience designing boards for high(ish) gain stuff. Any obvious non-desirable practice? I will use shielded wires and board mouted pots I have decided not to use the buffer for now, might...

    "Rockerverb" with fets for tubes

So, after further testing, I've added the diodes before Q2 and Q4. I'll probably keep'em, or at least make them switchable. I've tried your suggestions on the 2nd stage and decided to remove the cap altogether Finally, I've decided to use a 1k in series with a 1uf cap in the 3rd stage, in place...

    "Rockerverb" with fets for tubes

Awesome, Temol, thanks a lot! In the datasheet, values of -Vgs(off) range from typical=1V to max=4V, with no mention of minimum values. So I guess both 0.9V and 1.728V are reasonable. Idss also varies largely: the ones I have range from 0.6 to 1.5mA (C-type), but the 2SK304 in general ranges...

    "Rockerverb" with fets for tubes

That's amazing! Do you have a spice model for the 2sk304? If so, would you be willing to share it?

    "Rockerverb" with fets for tubes

I tried your suggestion of removing the 10uF and it's an amazing difference! Gain pots have a much better range now and the note definition is much improved. I will try some 2sk246 in place of q1 and listen to it, but I already love the way it sounds. I have Eagle running as I type, because this...

    "Rockerverb" with fets for tubes

Great! Thanks for the suggestion, I will try it later today. Have you tried the schottky diode between gate and source that AMT uses in their preamp pedals? Do you think it is worth it?

    "Rockerverb" with fets for tubes

Following a previous thread (orange solid state preamps), I've decided to breadboard the dirty channel of the rockerverb with jfets in place of the tubes. Plugged everything and had nothing but noise, just to notice I had left the gate of the first jfet disconnected. With everything properly...

    Dunwich DA-120 on a breadboard

It is supposed to emulate a Matamp GT120 being hit by a boost Edit: oops GT120, not DA120

    Dunwich DA-120 on a breadboard

That's incredible! Would you be willing to share your schematic? I'm very curious to see what is going on with the power amp emulation

Looking for a diy reverb with short delay time, non FV-1 based.

Nice! Will probably give the shadow a try

Would you be willing to share your pcb layout once it's done? I'm definetely interested

    MuAmp meets Rangemaster

This one is nothing revolutionary but sounds amazing and was fun to develop: idea -> LTspice -> breadboard -> eagle -> final build I've always liked the way jfet boosters and overdrives sound with solid state amps (the kind of amp I play the most) and so I've decided to try some MuAmp (in large...

    JFET Biasing - part 1

Cool, thanks, Chuck! That's what I had gathered from the equations, but the datasheets confused me. Too much information can be dangerous for the uninitiated
