Rosamp SLO 30 build diary: a noob perspective

Cheers! I have family visiting but I have done this yesterday: And I received my front and back panel grills so I have to paint those. Hoping to fire it up tomorrow...

    Looking tidy indeed!

Rosamp SLO 30 build diary: a noob perspective

Hey the case turned out better than I thought it would! Rounding off the edges was fast and smooth, thanks to a brand new router bit. Putting the Tolex on was messy. Also, the instruction of the glue asked for 30min minimum of resting time (apply on both Tolex and wood, wait 30+ min, put...

Rosamp SLO 30 build diary: a noob perspective

Thanks! Yeah the joints are actually way stronger than I though. I had to use the wooden mallet and a bit of force to slide everything in place. With Titebond in the slots, and considering it's 18mm birch multiplex, I am fairly sure it won't fail. And for the power up: I will post an update at...

Rosamp SLO 30 build diary: a noob perspective

I need to vent so here goes :ROFLMAO: Still waiting on the light bulb limiter and Variac from a friend so started on the headshell. I wanted to do Box joints, but we don't have a Datto blade, plus I was scared of doing something with a table saw and too lazy to do something with a saw and...

Rosamp SLO 30 build diary: a noob perspective

Couple of days ago, I had some time at home so I did a complete check of what I had done so far (looked good) and prepared the next steps: a ton of flying wires. So yesterday I did the mating between PCBs and the rest, which started by preparing the chassis thoroughly: and then soldering said...

Rosamp SLO 30 build diary: a noob perspective

Yesterday was one of those days where it does not look like much but I actually made quite some progress. The offboard wiring is almost complete and it's turning out just fine. I just have some issues with the 12AX7 soldering as they are narrow slits and it feels like I have to put quite a lot...

Rosamp SLO 30 build diary: a noob perspective

Nothing major for the diary, but I had a good hour tonight so I decided it was enough to install the transformers and do a bit of preventive cable management. For some reason I dreaded cutting the cables coming from the transformers, but I had a clear mind (ie no beer in me) so went for it. Pop...

Rosamp SLO 30 build diary: a noob perspective

Yesterday evening was PCB day. Rather straightforward except that I learned that the leg length of axial electrolytic capacitors has nothing to do with their polarity. Went from this: To this: And from this: To this: I am pleased with how it went, seems I got better at soldering: I...

Rosamp SLO 30 build diary: a noob perspective

Hey, So since I have been building a few pedals (and confidence), I thought I would tackle building something I always loved the sound of: a SLO. And since I am in the EU, there is a reasonable option pricewise in Rosamp. The few thread in here also convinced me it was within reach, provided I...

What strings do you guys use?

I just want to say thank you to this thread which reminded me that my home made guitar had Elixirs on it and they needed to gtfo and be replaced with NYXL (+ change the foam under the pickups for a denser one). Now it plays and sounds even better.

What strings do you guys use?

Never looked back since I switched to Daddario NYXL. Great stability, longevity and they sound killer for my application. Also I like colored balls.

    Beginner looking for advice

Find a kit you like and roll with it. If you want the outcome it will motivate you more than just something random but simple. A fuzz/overdrive/boost is probably a safer first bet. As people mentioned, as long as you have the right parts and take your time (and learn how to solder) assembling a...

    Drill Hole Diameters

I go the other way around. I use calipers once I receive the components and drill the next round number up. Pots are usually 6.7 mm diameter so I drill 7mm, etc. I don't bother with schematics. I do have access to a pillar drill though and basically all bits you can ask for, including step...

I'll grab one next time I'm at the hardware store then, cheers!

SOLVED AionFx Achilles (Prince of Tone) IC voltage 3 off?

I wouldn't be able to tell you as it's written nowhere on my old multimeter. Considering I have just found the new version of it on Alibaba for 1$ and it doesn't say anything about input impedance, I would say it's not a good sign. Thanks a lot for the advice. I will order a proper one and pay...

SOLVED AionFx Achilles (Prince of Tone) IC voltage 3 off?

    1: 4.42V 2: 4.46V 3: 2.21V (?) 4: 0.00V 5: 4.25V 6: 4.27V 7: 4.25V 8: 8.58V So not perfect, but within tolerance I'd say. All pins are what is expected, except pin 3.

SOLVED AionFx Achilles (Prince of Tone) IC voltage 3 off?

Hi. Third pedal build, first one that does something wierd. I can't figure it out and thought I would turn to better knowing people (so basically, everyone but me). - Pedal: AionFx Achilles, Prince of Clone single channel clone. - Schematic: - Picture (can take more if needed - c15 is now...

    AionFx Blaze (Amptweaker TightDrive)

For what it's worth - played with it more tonight and found that it actually works really well in front of the amp as a dirty boost if you see it more as a "high bump" pedal (compared to a "mid bump" pedal like a TS). I lowered the Treble on my amp by 2, increased the Presence by 1, and then...

    AionFx Blaze (Amptweaker TightDrive)

Long story short: it's my second build (the first one bing a AionFx Titan, so an OCD). I'm lining up 4 different overdrive types to learn to build, solder, learn which "building blocks" I like and understand it all to hopefully end up putting it all together in something that makes more sense to...
