    This week on the Breadboard: The Emerald Green Overdrive

    Just revisiting this one because a friend has asked about a "dirty boost with a Voxy kinda chime". It's been a while and I didn't have one handy so I drew up a new Vero layout. I tried a few MP38s in Q2 but they all seemed a bit too woolly sounding, compressed and not very inspiring. My friend...

    Boutique Pedal Manufacturers Are Feeling the Tariff Pinch

    I will never understand that. Why does anyone need a billion dollars? Think of all the good you could do with that money. How much shit can you consume?

    Boutique Pedal Manufacturers Are Feeling the Tariff Pinch

    It's just so lazy. Tariffs will NOT bring back manufacturing to the US if that's all you do. As well as tariffs you need to help prospective manufacturers with guarantees and probably tax incentives. You need to do your own research into what prospective manufacturers need to spend their money...

    Sheepy Love "The Grift" (Vemuram Jan Ray)

    Mr Szukalski is good people even if he does like sheep perhaps a bit too much. And I doubt anyone here is going to complain about another build report from you. Your comments on the sound of the Jan Ray are interesting. I love hearing different takes on circuits. I'm a fan of the Timmy - not...

    Tommy caps alternative values

    Using those values will theoretically mean a tiny bit more midrange and a tiny bit more low end when bass is maxed. In practise, as others have said, it will be difficult to hear a difference. I would use what you have without hesitation.

    This Week on the Breadboard: The Celestial Boost

    Looks more like a rosé. Your wiring shows promise. :LOL:

    This Week on the Breadboard: The ChuckMeister Distortion

    I have indeed built Chuck's version, but with a pair of 1N4148s - no Ge diodes. It's a great sound! It's very different from mine and worth its own build IMO. In fact I suspect a lot of players would prefer it. I'm often dubious about the value of mids pots though. Chuck's mid pot works well...

    DMD-2 -> Magnetron Echo

    I used to be way into delay. Over the past few years I've used it less and less and just used a hint of reverb with my many overdrives. But I still love a good delay. For a long time it was slapback delay I was using as I was in a rockabilly band. And my 6120 still seems a bit naked without a...

    DMD-2 -> Magnetron Echo

    I LOVE the UA Starlight Delay. Not cheap but damn it sounds good. It does pristine like no other, and also fantastic Deluxe Memory Man sounds without noise. I like it much more than the Strymons I've had. Plus I can easily switch between two different sounds. I like the layout of your pedal. I...

    DEMO Maxon ST-9 w/ SD-1 inspired mods (AionFX Cirrus)

    For some reason your band costume makes me feel all sleepy tired. But the pedal sounds great! I really like those sand texture colours too.

    This Week on the Breadboard: The Bloody Germanium Overdrive

    In an earlier version I used a 1N4148 ad BAT41 in both clipping stages. It was a little harsh. Chuck used Ge to smooth it; I changed D3 & D4 to 1N4001s. Both work. I get tried of how easily Ge diodes break!

    Pedal to 'Blackface' a Tweed Deluxe

    That's a bit sad! It's usually the high frequencies which go first. I've read about the Barb-EQ, and that's a cool idea. There are quite a few ways to tweak the identity of your amp, without necessarily tweaking the actual amp. That's where amp in a box pedals come in. They don't always change...

    This Week on the Breadboard: The Bloody Germanium Overdrive

    Well I haven't heard Chuck's but mine is definitely better. Seems obvious to me.

    This Week on the Breadboard: The Bloody Germanium Overdrive

    As Chuck alluded to this started when I ran my Shreddo (modded Shred Master) into the Beast (one of my fave ODs) and noticed how chunky the low end could be. I have always wanted an OD for my Strat which beefed up the low end in a way that kept the definition and Stratty twang. Not looking for...

    Faults from a boutique Ge pedal builder

    In my experience the best way to build a Tonebender or any Ge transistor pedal is to get some sockets and just try a bunch of transistors. It can be tedious but it works. Getting a transistor tester can help weed out transistors with too high leakage but some leakage is usually necessary to get...

    Does this PCB look ready to receive power?

    Not sure if it's clear, but there should be two rows of three knobs. So that lonely pot sticking out the top should have one each side of it. The rotary switch should have the lower two pots either side of it. That's what we mean when we ask about four of the pots being upside down.

    Transistors for Sandblaster Fuzz

    Well I have built it with a 2N3903, a 2N2222A and two BC182Ls. I did the twisty leg thing (to the transistors, not me) - should have probably used 2N3904s! But it works. Slightly underwhelmed with the sound of it solo so far but man it sounds amazing as a boost. I'll go listen to some demos...

    Transistors for Sandblaster Fuzz

    I'm building a Sandblaster Fuzz with one of Robert's lovely PCBs. I'm wondering about the transistors - I have some BC182Ls which I believe from my research are pretty much BC182Bs with a different pinout. So I'm wondering whether I should do the twisty leg thing with those or just use 2N3904s...

    OK I'll go and see the principal.

    This Week on the Breadboard: Eric Mid Boost

    Is there ever anything to be gained (excuse the pun) by running two halves of a dual opamp in parallel?
