I had the same problem with a switch, the hot solder ran down and caused a short. I solder every switch tab just on two points where the tab is near to the board.

Definitly i will order some JRC 4558 next time - just for s&g, but i ran out of TL072s. Interested also in the TL082.

First and foremost: use sockets. The hassle to solder them opamps in and out is not worth to save the costs of a socket.

These charge pump are a source of squeal sometimes. Sometimes they are fakes, sometimes they are defective and sometimes weird interacting with other parts like buffers or other charge pumps happen.

I follow a certain procedure to mount the pots, i read here somewhere. I mount the pots very loosely into the box and fit the pcb over the legs. After checking everything i fix the pots with the nut and solder them. This procedure can even out some inaccurate drillings or slight differences.

I recently started to measure all my caps. Those small ones have a rather wide spread.

I like to team the GEs up in series with 1N400x. It takes the threshold higher and preserves the characteristics of the GEs.

I bought sets of resistors, film caps, mlcc, elco caps, colored LEDs and shrink tubes. Other parts I get from banzai and musikding, since I am located in Germany.

Anyone on the Julianna? Could have it cheap from a local musician.
