    My first FV1

I recently finished my first FV-1 too and you are right, soldering the chip is a lot easier than first thought. In fact, I think I used the same solder as you (really small diameter stuff leftover from Radio Shack days). I used the smallest tip that I had with my soldering station, but recently...

SOLVED Octagon little output: Voltage Request

Ok, so I got this all sorted out over the weekend. I put a 22k resistor in place of the 15k at R10 and my volume is right about where I want it. Depending on the effect it's generally at unity gain right around 60 percent. I can goose it a bit when using the tremolo effect. I don't think I'd go...

SOLVED Octagon little output: Voltage Request

Good to hear, so it may be normal. I think I'd still like to try getting a little more volume.

SOLVED Octagon little output: Voltage Request

Wow, 82 looks and no comments. So this weekend I will remove the ICs and take some voltages just to get a baseline (and guess what looks right vs. what may be off). If all that seems to check out, I will try to increase the 15k resistor at R10 to see if it squeezes a little more volume out of...

    Auditorium Test Platform protective enclosure

I'd go with a piece of MDF. They are really dainty things and could use a solid base when plugging chords into them. I use 9mm plastic PCB supports for legs. They need a block of wood to stick to to make them more stable.

Check my SMD work - Pythagoras

It seems like you should have continuity between the ones you mentioned.

SOLVED Octagon little output: Voltage Request

Here's some pics. As I said, it appears to be working as advertised, although the volume doesn't seem to have the travel to go higher than unity volume. That is weird. I used 9mm pots because that's what I had onhand. The three control pots are B100k and the volume pot is A100k.

Low Tide - strange LED behaviour

    The "E" makes it perfect.

SOLVED Octagon little output: Voltage Request

(I will post pictures tomorrow, but they aren't really necessary for the purposes of this post.) I boxed up my Octagon last night and played through it. Each effect seems to be working but the output of the effect is really low. Like really low. Staring at it and reviewing pics of other...

    soldering germanium transistors?

Alligator clips as heat sinks work fine.

Using Simple JFET Buffer to build a Buffer Patchbay

Got it, and not sure what I did. I grounded the buffer to the 9v socket only instead of running another ground to the output.

Using Simple JFET Buffer to build a Buffer Patchbay

Ok, played this through a proper amp and pedal board and no joy. It is amplifying the output by maybe a factor of 4. Specifically, the output jacks to the amp appear to be the problem. The input to the pedalboard sounds fine, unity gain.

    1590B Top-Mount Jacks Measurements

I just converted two RAT pedals to this profile last week and it worked great. 1590b enclosures are my favorite and now I can make them all top mount.

Using Simple JFET Buffer to build a Buffer Patchbay

I finished my junction box this weekend and the Simple JFET Buffer passes signal and in the test format that I used it seems to boost the signal a bit (I have a small cigar box amp that I use for benchtop testing). I've not had the time to plug it into a pedal board and through a proper amp...

Using Simple JFET Buffer to build a Buffer Patchbay

I am sticking mine to the back of my isolated jacks (much like the Vertex example) with modelling clay. You could use clay or putty to do the same with the enclosure. Solid core wire also helps hold it in place. You can also wrap it in electrical tape or shrink tubing (it fits inside 1/2 inch...

    Yes I’m posting this.

https://ovationguitars.com/theovationstory After reading this you will be convinced that Lyrachord is a "tone composite" and worthy to sit alongside Sitka Spruce, mahogany and some of our finer aged instrument woods. It almost makes you forget that playing an Ovation slightly more frustrating...

    Yes I’m posting this.

Plastic is a less than ideal tonewood. Or at least, that's what I've read.

Hate to be the one to say it, but ... Dude, that's a fake Fender. You can kinda tell by the headstock.

    Chaos Machine

I had similar experience with my Chaos Machine. The dry mix is underwhelming and I'm not sure if that's a feature or a bug. Everything else seems to work well.

    Yet another Sandspur

I bought the 2.54 mm male and the housing from Tayda and am confused how they even work. There appears to be nothing to crimp, or solder. Can these not be used as 9v pigtails?
