(I could be totally wrong in my explanation here, so keep that in mind)
The Ge transistor is biased to 6.75V (trim is maxed out, so I can't get to the recommended 7V). When I first auditioned the Si transistor the voltage jumped to just under 8V. I originally put a 100k pot to ground off the Si...
Final Update:
I did a bracket style competition with the Ge transistors I had and originally landed on the CV7007 as my classic Rangemaster sound with a low gain MP39B as option two. I was about to wrap it up when I decided to throw a silicon PNP in there.
All the germaniums sounded like...
I have an OC76 and a CV7007 that bias out within .1V of each other when swapped and I can't decide which one I prefer so I figured why not both. Ive been swapping them back and forth for a while and decided I like both and they feel different enough to have in one circuit. The OC76 has a little...
I want to mod my rangefinder by adding a switch (or array) to go between different transistors. Is there a best-practice method for wiring something like this up? I was hoping a 3pdt on/on would work, but I'm also super new to this.
Thanks!
Update:
I swapped/replaced all the transistors. Biggest difference is that Q3 has lower gain than before; Q1-3 all range between 48 and 61 hfe now.
Biggest change overall is I socketed R3 and R7 and replaced them with a 1.8K resistor and a 10k trim pot respectively. Pedal has much more output...
Hey all,
I built a Tone Vendor MKII, and while a little bright, the bigger issue is that the output volume is too low. The volume pot on full gets me just under unity gain.
before I mess with the 470r and 8.2k resistors to get more volume I figured I'd ask if this circuit is naturally quite or...
I suspect the answer is that I can't use them, but figured I'd ask. I have a bunch of 200+/- HFE 2N3904 transistors lying around and was going to use them in a Carbon Black Fuzz instead of the 2N3903's required. My understanding is 2N3903s have half the HFE, so would my 2N3904s be too much for...
[Picking up where another thread left off]
I built a Son of a Ben and it all seems to be working correctly except it is incredibly bright. I need to have the bass on full and the treble between 0-3 to get a usable tone out of it. It feels/sounds like there is a significant high-pass filter on...
Hey, did you ever figure this out? I built a Son of a Ben and am having the same problem; the only usable setting is with the bass on full and the treble on 3 (or off). I attached some photos of my build (I've since gotten rid of the painter's tape and replaced it with plastic covers.)
This was perfect, thanks! I put a socket on R4, put in a 1K, re-biased Q2 to 4.5V, and now the pedal has much more output. If I ever want to go back to original spec, I can just pop in the 470R and re-bias.
Hey!
I built a Sandspur and love the tone, but I need to have the volume cranked to get the right increase in volume. I understand this is typical of some vintage fuzz circuits, but are there any mods I could do to increase the overall output volume?
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
[SOLVED]
I put thicker material between the board and the pots and the pedal works now. Must have been some metal poking through the tape and contacting the pot
Hey!
I built a Son of a Ben preamp and it won't pass any sound when engaged.
It passes signal in bypass and Q1-3 are biased to 4-5V each.
Any idea where I should check for bad connections? I feel like if I can bias the transistors, the majority of the circuit is good to go, but I'm an...
