My understanding of the Klon is that the vf is the most important factor over everything else, and that looking for a vf of about .35 should get you there regardless of other properties.

PPCB is the only maker I've used where the values are on the board. It's pretty handy but seems an odd reason to dislike a maker in particular.

An audio probe is really helpful in sniffing out problem areas if you've got one. If you don't building one is pretty simple.
