    Volume Drop Paragon Overdrive

I am glad you got it working! I actually ran into a bad 'sweeper' (lug 2) on a new Alpha pot this year, as well.

Median Compressor (Spirit of 1776) - Functional Testing - UPDATE

Finally swapped the TL072 for the recommended OPA1678 and the impact is subtle. A tad more analogous translation (sound of the guitar in = sound of the guitar out), which can sound sterile. However, into a tube amp and using the blend on 90%ish, it sounds big. The TL072's in the Median...

    Gale Pedal Problem

Do pins 4 & 8 have continuity to ground? Is either of pins 5 or 7 shorted to ground? The LM386-1 appears to be misaligned in the socket. It could be a defective chip?

    SO-8 to DIP-8 Adapter Hacks - UPDATED

Actually, it is a SOIC-8 part. I must have had So-23 in the brain.

    SO-8 to DIP-8 Adapter Hacks - UPDATED

For anyone with the same question, the recommended 2.54mm header pins will probably (barely) fit in the PedalPCB products solder eyelets, but they do not fit in common component sockets. :( My hack is to place the adapters on a breadboard, placed reclaimed film cap leads through the eight...

    SO-8 to DIP-8 Adapter Hacks - UPDATED

Does anyone have a solution to what to use for the lead pins ('legs') on a SO-8 to DIP-8 adapter, once the SOIC-8 type IC is soldered to the adapter? I've seen some adapters sold with staged pins and I've used reclaimed resistor leads in the past. Just wondering what other builders are doing...

Median Compressor (Spirit of 1776) - Functional Testing - UPDATE

Thanks, and yes, I will hold them for someone who could use them. I have been fixing large component items (mostly tube amps and SS) since the late 70's and even though I can solder like a pro, I cannot see myself soldering something smaller than a tick. I many have between 5 and 8 left.

Median Compressor (Spirit of 1776) - Functional Testing - UPDATE

As you can see from the pictures below, I have the Median Compressor populated and loaded in the enclosure for functional test. FYI: I am calling my build, the 'Spirit of 1776' - a little play on the UREI 1176 it borrows from. I had a few challenges so far: - Reviewed the design, compared it...

    VSSOP-8 Adapter Recommendations?

Does anyone have a recommendation for an affordable VSSOP-8 to 8-pin DIP supplier? I bought a dozen OPA1678IDGKT, thinking they were SO-8 and they turned out to be very tiny VSSOP-8.

SOLVED LED BEZEL - Pro-10: Green side not working when boxed

Asking me to give up my secrets, jeeze! ;) This is using the individual schematics for each side of the Pro-10, as I have not seen a combined schematic. Mods for Pro-10 Blue (Marshall BB, Glory Hole, etc.): - Kot Mod: place 25K trimmers (one per resistor) in series with R2 & R3 and insert a...

    REQUEST PedalPCB 4 Tap DC Converter/Isolator 1590A

I've DYI'ed a similar concept for a 125B type enclosure. 18vDC 1.5A input supply, a 9vDC (LM317T) regulator trimmed to 9v and filtered, (5) 9vDC isolated outputs and (2) 18vDC inputs. If i can fit this with Terro board, PedalPCB can surely fit it with their double sided layiouts!

No doubt, but wouldn't that be subject to a component tolerance range? In other words, Brian Wampler created a design target with would create the effect constantly within a tolerance of the reliability he could source?

SOLVED LED BEZEL - Pro-10: Green side not working when boxed

Glad to hear you corrected it! IMHO, a Great pedal. I have a few mods on mine: trimmers on the Blue side to turn it into a King of Tone; a 'fat' control on the Green side to tighten up the bass when required, added a smidge more gain and changed to clipping diodes to make it a bit more amp...

SOLVED LED BEZEL - Pro-10: Green side not working when boxed

You've got the trouble shooting process down! Two key pieces of information that I derived from your last post: the fault is replicated via the green stomp switch mounting and also by way of the green tone pot mounting. Given the proximity of the two, I am guessing the problem is in the switch...

SOLVED LED BEZEL - Pro-10: Green side not working when boxed

+1 for @DailyDovetails . Anomalies which occur after 'boxing up' are typically 'fit' problems. I've been working on amps and music effects since the late 1970's and it still occasionally happens to me. These are typically components accidentally shorting, or the obstruction bending the PCB...

I recall a couple of TL071 (single op amps), a BF245 FET, and a bunch of discrete T0-92 discrete bi-polar transistors were in the UREI 1176's. So, a TL072 is appropriate. And I agree that in some effects, fast slew rate = sterile sounding. For instance, in a Rat I like a slow and messy LM308...

If it sounds good, it is good! The design's OPA1678 (FET based) is faster, has a slightly lower input impedance (both better for processing transients) and has a lower noise floor, which makes it closer to use as a studio compressor as well as an instrument compressor. That said, TL072 (also...

Median Compressor PCB - Available Now!

I just started into this compressor build. After stydying the design, it appears to me to be a simplified single channel of a Universal Audio 1176 studio compressor, sans the high-end hi to lo impedance transformer, using mostly FET ICs instead of discrete FETs and running on about 8.7V instead...
