If you jumper the IN / OUT pads together (in the IN/GND/SW/OUT cluster) you can use it as a standalone boost pedal. Just drop it in an enclosure and wire up the jacks.

Try putting a 2N3904 in Q4 and see if you like that better.

It's usually easiest just to give each LED it's own current limiting resistor. Then you can adjust the resistance for each separately depending on color / brightness.

Yes, my switch footprint is technically on the wrong side of the board.

It doesn't quite drop to the bottom but it fits. (It's actually lower than it would sit if there was a pot underneath)

You have access to programs 0 - 2 if you use a 3-position ON/OFF/ON toggle switch. Pin 18 is grounded on the PCB so it'd involve a little hackery to use that one. You certainly can ground pin 13 for access to the internal programs.

1N4148 is correct but either will work.... or you could save your diode for something more useful and omit it entirely.

If either stop the squeal the issue most likely isn't the charge pump.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to discuss either in any depth, but that looks awfully similar to the diode ring compressor used in the Ethos TWE-1 (and a couple others).

A defective FV-1 wouldn't cause this... If you have no sound the problem isn't the FV-1 / EEPROM / CD4049, the problem is the analog signal path.
