    Pot bushing thread adapter?

McMaster has the 3/8 x 24 at 1/8th thick, but I think it’s just a single thread nut; good price though. https://www.mcmaster.com/products/nuts/thread-size~3-8-24/height~1-8-2/height~0-125/

    A tip for your tip?

My iron has the auto ramp down and auto sleep modes, but before I had this one, I typically would turn it off if I knew that it’d be 30 minutes or more of down time. Part of me doesn’t like the on/off cycling, but the more modern set ups that do the ramping up and down make a lot of sense. I’m...

    3d print Shika Fuzz

Great job with printing and overall design. I really like the thin copper tape that has conductive adhesive on the back—but it would be fussy with thicker rails you have along each side. No fumes, and you know you have a solid shield.

    Ionizer Build

I like those knobs with the painting style. Unexpected, in a nice way. Like, the controls from the saucer they came in, or something.

    1973 Colorsound Tremolo

so, I’m reading this, dozy in bed, I must’ve nodded off. I wake up, see this image, reading it as the top view of a beautiful pedal, a deep maroon, with dimensional graphics and two minimal knobs.. I’m thinking, this is a wild pedal! Then, I woke up just a bit more…

DEMO General Tso Redux (Thorpy Fat General)- Demo Added

    What about 2 x 10 cabinets? They just don't get the love they should. I'll take a 2 x 10 over a 2 x 12 anyday.

DEMO General Tso Redux (Thorpy Fat General)- Demo Added

I'll get the Acer board with my next order. Currently, I rotate between the Pot & Kettle, Cattle Drive, Chop Shop, Champ Stamp, Nordland, and Transcendence. But I also think of the Equinox and the Mercurial in this same league (but with benefits); and anyway, those two are pretty much givens for...

DEMO General Tso Redux (Thorpy Fat General)- Demo Added

I really couldn’t hear a difference. Your recorded sound is typically really good, and this was maybe even better than that… In my search for my favorite low gain boost (hah!, like there will be a single one…) I keep circling around, some days, weeks, I hear a lot more differences than on...

DEMO General Tso Redux (Thorpy Fat General)- Demo Added

Michael—another killer demo, and this time with Starwars scrolling notes! This is such a small detail, that I feel petty bringing it up—but given how solid your reviews are, please take this as me just being as anal (as I am...). According to Thorpe, in the volume setting, the signal is 90%...

Pedals where 18v is *actually* worth it??

I will definitely update my tests with both pedals. The Tso really is a great compressor; for the gentle amount I typically use, it is very similar to my Effectrode LA-1A, only missing a bit of the atmosphere (“space between the notes, upper harmonic floats, etc.”) that I can hear, when playing...

Pedals where 18v is *actually* worth it??

Chop shop, Mercurial, Comprehensive, Pot and Kettle, and the Spectron (Aion Nordland) are all great to my ears at 18v. I‘m finally going to be taking everything apart to paint the boxes in a month or so, and while everything is just guts, also plan on trying both the Tso and Pendulum at 18v, but...

Couple questions for the amp builders out there

This is an excellent suggestion for anyone wondering about their first foray into amp building. Many of the kit sites have downloadable instructions, and getting a feel for the general steps is very useful.

Couple questions for the amp builders out there

A few years back I decided to build a kit, and Allen Amps and Trinity were my two finalists. I ended up with Allen, and the hardest part was deciding on a specific model. Some of his kits were heavily documented, others were just all the parts, a schematic and a wiring layout. The model I chose...

    Fiddly screwdriver question?

Back when the Whole Earth Catalogs were first coming out, I remember a story about a commune (where else?) that had a ritual that involved passing around an old, battered slotted screw driver. Everyone repeated all its uses—prying open stuck paint cans, getting under the heads of nails, using it...

    Fiddly screwdriver question?

While I have several mini screwdriver “kits” that include many weird small bits, for the most used sizes, I have maybe 8 - 10 small Wiha (and very similar AT&G) drivers. Most are at least 30 years old; all still going strong. Hand tools, like screwdrivers and pliers, can make working on projects...

Noob question regarding soldering LED to PCB

Electrically, it doesn’t matter. I think most of us solder it on the back side (with the pots and switches). If I’m using the standard LED position (as determined by the board) more often than not I solder it in with the board in place, pushing the LED in from the hole in the enclosure.

    Strongest Clean Boost

To my knowledge most of the boosts run up to about 20db boost, which may work fine with some mikes—I don’t know. A simple one, like the Transcendence, would be a good place to start. But before you do, while poking around to see if my sense that this might not be the best approach was correct...
