That's usually caused by a bit too much heat applied to the foot switch. It normally happens when I use a 3PDT daughter board. Some cheaper footswitches are more sensitive to heat than others. The red ones from Tayda with the soft click have been the worst for me. But yah, if you tap and jiggle...

Try putting it in Bypass mode, then partially activate the switch, like push down the slack until you feel resistance and jiggle it a few times without activating it. I've had this issue with one particular brand of 3PDT. The red 1kg stomps from Tayda. I've had pedals I've built years ago now...

Nah, it's the pedal. I'm not the only one that has had this issue. If I have the gain anywhere above noon and the boost also around noon it screams. I've built 3 of them, all 3 do it heh. I've tried shielded cable, etc. It's academic though, I don't use that much gain anyway.

That's a great idea putting it in a 1590BB. How's the squeal/oscillation when the boost gain is turned up?
