My take on a 125B King of tone!

Hey guys, Thought I'd share my latest build. It's a King of tone in a 125B enclosure, with toggle switches instead of dipswitches. Presence trimpots inside, black channel is higher hain, white channel is lower gain. I used BA282 diodes for the soft clipping section (closest I could find to the...

VHS, no sound, FV-1 issue? (SOLVED)

Great, it seems you’re gonna make it work! And you got to learn a few debugging tricks! :)

Thanks for your work, I will definitely use it!

    Paragon Mod

No, this is not gonna work. Or actually it might, but I'm really not sure, and it doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I don't have time to draw a layout of how to do it right now. But again, 18v isn't very interesting in my opinion with this circuit.

VHS, no sound, FV-1 issue? (SOLVED)

Just put one probe on an FV1 pin, and the other to a resistor/cap that's supposed to connect to it. See if there's continuity everywhere. Maybe @p_wats could help, he seems to have doing quite a bit of troubleshooting around FV1 builds these days! :)

    Paragon Mod

Yes, you can also take out C21 and C22. And I would replace C10 with a 100u, for better filtering

VHS, no sound, FV-1 issue? (SOLVED)

Did you try another opamp? It would be a good idea to socket the ICs and transistors/votlage regulators And check if there's any bridges on the switch board.

VHS, no sound, FV-1 issue? (SOLVED)

I honestly don't know. Check continuity between the FV1 pins and the surrounding resistors and caps. Check again all the parts values. Hopefully someone smarter than me will come up with an idea!

    Paragon Mod

You have 9v at the output (cathode) of D7, and 18v at the output (cathode) of D15. If you want to keep 9v only, don't solder the TC1044, and jump D14 and D15

    Paragon Mod

That's not gonna work. I honestly don't think 18v is interesting in this circuit. It's already super clean at 9v in boost mode (with no clipping diodes engaged), there's no need for 18v in my opinion. Sorry I can't help you right now with your question.

VHS, no sound, FV-1 issue? (SOLVED)

I'm no FV1 expert, I haven't used that chip much, so you may need some help from someone else Your voltages look fine to me, except for pin 13 of the FV1, that should be about 3.3v I believe. Other than that it all seems fine. Did you check all your resistor values, and your soldering? Also...

    No signal at pin 28?

VHS, no sound, FV-1 issue? (SOLVED)

Also, you should probably post voltages for all ICs in your build.

VHS, no sound, FV-1 issue? (SOLVED)

I dont think there is any signal going to pin3, so dont bother changing the cap. Is there any signal coming in at pin1&2 and coming out at pin 28?

Kliche Voice Switch and Bass Knob Mods

Another great option in my opinion to add a bass pot is to go the VFE way (see their Merman pedal): replace R14 with a much smaller value (1k5 in my build) and a 50k pot in series. That path is basically some heavily filtered clean signal, and bumping its volume allows for much more bass and...

VHS, no sound, FV-1 issue? (SOLVED)

All the 1uf caps are in the signal path, so no worries with them being film instead of electrolytics. Maybe one leg is shorting against another pad? When it's out of the enclosure, does it still not work?

    Paragon

    Nope, just one resistor.

Paragon squealing/whistling noises with high volume/gain/tone settings - normal?

It seems normal to me, a lot of circuits with gain and volume maxed will squeal, especially if they’re stacked and they’re not properly buffered. The real question is: will you ever use both channel with full gain and volume at the same time? If not, no problem!

    Benson preamp clipping diodes

Yeah the mids sliders are exciting! You could kinda do it with a JHS Haunting mids on a switch I guess (and even have 3 Q positions instead of 2) You may be right about the soft clipping thing, I hadn’t even thought about it, looking at the Benson circuit my mind went directly to diodes to...
