Sometimes if a component has received too much heat the trace can lift or become damaged. I wouldn’t say it’s hugely common but something to consider when you are trouble shooting. Thanks @Chuck D. Bones - I will definitely give this a try. I often use the coda bypass and get an odd intermittent pop with some builds. This should be known as Celestial Switching.

The general advice is that have your capacitors rated to double the voltage of your power supply. So if using 9v for this pedal, then having caps to cover at least 18v. The main issue is you are only going to be able to buy a 16v or 25v capacitor. So it’s the safest option to go with 25v.

As @spi says - it will probably make it more usable.

@HamishR - is the bass control you added the ruetz mod or something different? LEDs on the first gain stage sounds interesting to have on a toggle or dip switch in addition to hard clipping. The rat I built had hard/soft/no clipping but I bet that combined hard/soft would sound interesting...
