I need a new step bit

I drill a 3/32" right through the 125B Drill Template and 125B Top Jack Drill Template with a hand drill. Then I use a Irwin Unibit on my drill press. I am using 5/16" for pots (give a little wiggle room) 3/8" for in/out 1/4" for the toggle switches, 5/16" for the lumberg power jacks, and...

Favorite solder lead/tin/silver mix, gauge and provider?

I have ordered a roll of the Kester 245 no-clean solder and will see how it does soldering down some FV-1 and surface mount for a mini-heterodyne.

    Mesmerizer

I changed Q5 and Q16 to 2n3819 and swapped R17 for 47k to dim the green segment of the LED. I think it actually sounds better with R17 at 47k. I didn't expect that to make a difference in sound. I just wanted the green to not be so bright. You may want to socket Q5 and Q6 for this build even if...

Mesmerizer - LED flickering but no modulation of sound

I did some tests with my LEDs to see why I am not seeing much color change. I think unless I decide to get new LEDs I am just going to change the 1k on the green to 47k, leave the red at 1k, and call it fixed. I wired according to attached schematic. I then adjusted the wiper so that I got...

Mesmerizer - LED flickering but no modulation of sound

Actually I was thinking of increasing R16 and R17 to get less brightness on the green. I think I burned a hole in my retina looking at it. But I think it would be a good idea to breadboard some different resistor values to see what looks good with the LEDs I have. I think the voltage swing I am...

Mesmerizer - LED flickering but no modulation of sound

I swapped out the 2n5457s with another pair of 2n5457 and got pretty much the same results. No modulation of sound. I then swapped both for a pair or 2N3819 and get modulated sound. I am not seeing much Red from the LED, but the green is very bright. I don't know where I got these from but...

Tweed Sound enclosure fail - Updated with Final photo

I gave up on the embroidery. Getting the real olive-yellow tweed fabric was going to be too difficult and too much money for one enclosure. I went with just using the POSCA pens on the tolex. I still think it came out great. I love those miniature chicken heads.

Tweed Sound enclosure fail - Updated with Final photo

It looks like he had the actual coated tweed fabric rather than the tolex. We got some tips from people when looking for the fabric and give it another go.

Tweed Sound enclosure fail - Updated with Final photo

I got this tolex with the idea to embroidery the design. But tolex isn't really fabric, it just gets cut up, not really stitched. So I am on the search for real fabric that looks like this. I also got these cool miniature chicken head knobs from amplified parts. The standard chicken head knobs...

Mesmerizer - LED flickering but no modulation of sound

The 2n5485 are packaged like they came from tayda. I have 2 more 2n5457 that came from who knows where, probably eBay. How would you test these? I have a multimeter that measures hFE, but these are JFETs right? I have some SMD to through hole adapters, but it looks like the only SMD JFETs I...

    FV-1's

I ordered 4 from electro-smith to go with the 3 Kaleidoscope and Leprechaun I just ordered. Getting them here pre-soldered down is a deal. Hopefully this ends well.

    CDXL Envelope Filter

I went ahead and ordered the board even though I told myself I wouldn't order any more boards without schematics and with weird hard to find parts. What good are rules if you are just going to follow them. :)

    FV-1's

Will these be in by the 28th? I need 4 for my cart.

    CDXL Envelope Filter

Wow, that's a pricey part (I found it for $11.50 at Small Bear). Is there a substitute/cheaper source?

    CDXL Envelope Filter

I put a CDXL Envelope filter in my shopping cart. But there are no build docs and I don't know what the symbol is under the 1N5817. Does anyone know what that part is? How does this compare to the Waddle Box?

Mesmerizer - LED flickering but no modulation of sound

So it looks like you are also getting 2V peak to peak with about a 4.5 DC bias for a 1/250ms = 4Hz modulation at pin 2. And in the picture you are getting modulated sound? But you are using the triangle wave. Does it also "vibrato" on sine?

No LED and no bypassed sound but Captain Bit working

The $16 switch does feel different and weights different than the $3 switch. I bought one because I was curious. I wasn't curious to tear it apart to see if the insides were different. I am happy with the $2.49 A-331 from tayda for most builds. They are also at LMS for $2.48 in a couple of...

Favorite solder lead/tin/silver mix, gauge and provider?

I think you're correct for what I have. I was sold it as 24 style flux, which isn't on Kester's website. I got it confused with 245 which is sold as a no-clean solder (the packaging looks the same). The part number I have on the spool (2463370027) is for a Kester 44 rosin core solder. Has...

The Mesmerizer ( weird pedal )

I have 6 more 2n5485 that look like they came from tayda. I have 2 more 2n5457 that came from who knows where, probably eBay. I would have to look through the rest of my transistors to see if there is anything similar, but I think they are mostly bjt. I bought some J201 recently from mammoth...

The Mesmerizer ( weird pedal )

I have already swapped the 0919 for a 0918 I got from Jameco. With the 0919 there was no flickering of the LED and the wave at pin 2 was completely flat. I don't remember the voltage, but it wasn't a sine wave.
