Clean Preamp for DIY practice amp - suggestions please

Oops, so I made a slight mistake with my board for this project. I accidentally put the wrong DPDT switch DipTrace component in my PCB design and didn't pick up the error. Now I have physical boards that won't fit a mini or sub-mini DPDT toggle. Anyone know what kind of DPDT switch might work...

SOLVED Help me understand my audio probing

So of course @Chuck D. Bones was exactly right. I reflowed and added solder on the pads leading to the off-board Mix control and the signal is now filtered again. Also the wah pot was not in the optimum part of its travel, which has now been adjusted. Appreciate the help!

SOLVED Help me understand my audio probing

Ok thanks @Chuck D. Bones and @PJS, this is helpful. I can hear filtered signal at various pins along the LM13700N but unfiltered signal at the output, so now I am suspicious of the off-board Mix pot and associated wiring. Also, when I touch the pedal during testing it kills hum, should I be...

SOLVED Help me understand my audio probing

Yes to both questions. It's very confusing. Just packed up to go to bed so will check tomorrow!

SOLVED Help me understand my audio probing

Not yet, all pads on that net have continuity on the multimeter so I didn't think reflowing would do anything.

SOLVED Help me understand my audio probing

I built a crazy bass pedal for a work colleague's band earlier this year and it has been working for them until recently. It has a fuzz, boost and filter inside it, all living on separate circuit boards. You can see more about it if you are interested on this page: Bass fuzz/filter It has been...

Ideas needed for bass guitar filter/distortion pedal effect

So this pedal/science project came back to me from the band who have been using it, for some TLC. Fuzz, Boost, and switching all work fine. The Filter circuit passes audio but does not filter anymore. Also there's an occasional weird sensation like the sound is fading out, but it's brief and...

I know nothing about Macs but I am wishing you good luck! Hope you can find a worthwhile solution.

Clean Preamp for DIY practice amp - suggestions please

There may well be spare boards that I'm unlikely to build. The downside with rolling my own PCBs is that I always end up with spares as there's a 5-board minimum order. But perf away if you prefer, I shared in the hope it would be useful to someone else. None of these circuits are mine in the...

Clean Preamp for DIY practice amp - suggestions please

Not according to Mouser. It's not cheap though, $11AUD. That's nearly as much as an LM308 costs from a bricks and mortar electronics store here ($15) 😅 I may go for a cheaper preamp IC too.

Clean Preamp for DIY practice amp - suggestions please

Haha that's exactly right. I was looking at PCBs here the other day and I noticed some "caps" with logos rather than values and I was floored by the genius of it 😂

Clean Preamp for DIY practice amp - suggestions please

Updates: The good folks at DIY Stompboxes helped me simplify and improve the design. It now has a Mach 1-flavoured clipping section going into the Tonemender tonestack. Switching for the reverb was removed as the circuit has a dry path that is always on, so the knob can control whether or not...

    Bring out yer Diptrace

Have any of my fellow 'tracers worked out how to use the Spice simulation capability inside Diptrace? I get tired of how clunky LTSpice is for laying out components. I realise it probably has limited functions but thought it might be a timesaver to use instead of rebuilding each circuit in...

Clean Preamp for DIY practice amp - suggestions please

Yep, I think that's perfect, thank you @Elijah-Baley Here's what I've got so far, the only part of the circuit I'm not confident about is the speaker protection segment. I found a circuit that uses a 555 timer IC to drive a relay closed for about 5 seconds, which I'm hoping will help me avoid...

Clean Preamp for DIY practice amp - suggestions please

Hi folks, I have decided to build my kids a practice amp for Christmas seeing as they have started playing recently. So far the plan is to use Erik Vincent's 10 Minute Amp circuit (7W class A-B power amp) and a Belton brick reverb like the Boing. I just need a Fendery clean preamp as the front...

What's all this Impedance Stuff About?

This is great learning material as always, Chuck. In this article, Mr Black says ideal values for pedals are 500kΩ-1MΩ for input impedance, with 1KΩ-10KΩ preferred for output impedance: Buffers, impedance and internet lore Simulating a circuit I'm working on in LTSpice, I get an input impedance...

    LND150 SRPP OD

Beautiful! I too am messing with mu-amps atm. They're fun. I'm currently re-working the EQ section of a Vertex design and also fiddling around with a BSIAB2/Wampler Pinnacle-type thing. Your drive circuit looks like a fun build. I'm glad to see the Gain knob is the big boy

    Boost to pair with Thermionic/BE-OD

A friend of mine has asked me to build him a BE-OD, but he wants a boost after it to give him 10-15% more for solos etc. I'd prefer single knob and not too much colouration, so which boost would you suggest? It's going on its own footswitch after the BE-OD circuit. Thanks for your wisdom 🙏
