    Recovered diode identification request

I would suggest that you do an internet search for the service manual for that HP pulse generator, and then look them up

    Jlcpcb and tariffs

I'd rather pay more than have you bow out of making PCBs. Do what you have to do to stay in business, we love your PCBs. Life itself is expensive!

    Alternative op-amps

Just make sure that it's a DUAL opamp, and the pin designations (in, out, V+, etc) match that of the JRC4558 (which is the same as an RC4558). Note added: In that circuit, I don't think the opamp itself makes a huge difference, the distortion is primarily coming from the diodes in the feedback...

    Russian Germaniums

Google will translate those spec sheets for you, either translating them as a doc or as a picture. Sometimes the translated wording is a little goofy, but certainly the symbols become legible. https://translate.google.com/

Wah Pot - Why would you put a small capacitor across lugs 1 & 3?

The cap is a high pass filter. at frequencies above fo = 1/(2*pi*R*C), the high frequencies predominately run thru the cap (C) over the pot (R). It not only tries to hide the pot's motional noise, but when the pot is fixed it also alters the sonics of the pedal - as frequency goes above fo...

    SOLVED Whipped cream issues

Have you checked all your part values? The film caps look fine, but I can't see the electrolytic values. Resistors are difficult to color check off pics, please check the remaining part values, and then come back to us.

Grover Drive (LovePedal Dover) - Update

No, C2 is still there. Since this is meant to be a faithful reproduction, presumably C2 is present in the real pedal - and thus if you want to exactly reproduce the original, you should follow the build doc to the letter. The unfortunate reality is just that C2 is a design flaw in the...

    Auditioning Ge Transistors For Noise?

And you thought $5 diodes were expensive...

Hey folks, if you've got more money than sense, check out these NOS diodes - lol 40 smackers each!! (that's US$). They must be extra f*cking magic. This has to set a new record for diode prices... They are old and unusual, that's for sure. But somehow I'm not feeling the urge to empty my...

    Auditioning Ge Transistors For Noise?

I don't know how to draw a circuit diagrams on this web page, so I'll be lazy and just point to someone else's circuit drawing. Check out figure 3 in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_collector

    Tayda OP07CPs?

Very nice of you to let Hugo know. (y) For one, check the datasheet from that manufacturer, and look at the printing and case for possible differences. Hopefully you can tell the manufacturer from the text or logo. Logo lookup is here...

    3D Printed Resistor Tester Stand

Thanks, when I get to my optimized design, I promise I will post it here. Just give me a little more time, I've got a few home projects going all at the same time. To quote John Lennon, "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans..." What a simple and clever approach!

    3D Printed Resistor Tester Stand

A short update - I still need a little refinement of the design, as while it does bend the leads to the right spacing, the end of the transistor's lead are not fully straight. Here's the prototype in action: Pic 1: transistor loaded Pic 2: hand tool fully pushed in Pic 3: end result

    2N4249 Alternative?

Likely not, that range covers a lot of very different transistors (many of which are NPN, so that can't be right). A 2N5086 is apparently an equivalent, and it is a common transistor in pedal world that should be easy to locate Here's a post of various equivalents...

SOLVED Fornicus overdrive, faulty j201, or own stupidity?

@nikyramone - That 2N5457 is a JFET (as is the J201), and FETs can be fairly easily killed by static discharge - so that might be what happened. When handling FETs, make sure you're discharged - e.g., no static generating chair seat or surfaces around, touch a grounded metal surface...

Dead End FX Splinter crackle and static

Might be bad solder joints. I notice that the solder doesn't always wick up onto the lead of your devices, e.g., on the two diodes at back left. Perhaps reflow the solder joints, and (if you have it) use a noncorrosive flux on any problematic joints (sometimes used parts can have oxide on the...

DEMO General Tso Redux (Thorpy Fat General)- Demo Added

@MichaelW - thanks a lot for your suggestion of using Xvive vactrols, that's very helpful. I also appreciate that you explained *why* you chose that specific model (VTL5C4), in that the closely similar Aion Convex (Dinosaural OTC-201) uses it. I've always been concerned about the geometrical...
