    What's on the workbench?

If I were to commercially release a pedal, I would 100% add unrelated sections with obscure parts and values just so those pesky DIYer's couldn't reverse engineer it.

    Changing up tubes

That’s a clever idea. I might experiment with different amp settings though. Keeping everything identical might not always translate the same way kind of like swapping transistors in a pedal. Different ones can change the sound so a slight tweak might help each tube perform at its best.

What is a good “first pedal” for a bass player?

There are lots of good options for compressors with different ways to accomplish it as well as different features and tonal implications like the DynaRoss.

    Whatchu sittin on? (chair thread)

I am using an old office chair but looking to replace it as well. I have been eyeing a couple Herman miller knock offs. At work we have Herman Miller Aeron chairs but they were bought used during the pandemic from a company that went under. You could probably could get one under the $500 but...

What is a good “first pedal” for a bass player?

I really like the bass mod Klon for a little edge and drive. The clean blend really helps help the core tone as well as adding a little hair to the tone.

    Changing up tubes

To me, that looks like algebra with all the letters correlating with numbers! V1 I believe is a 12AX7 with EL84 in the power

    Jlcpcb and tariffs

I just checked a Tayda order I have in my cart and the shipping/tariffs/fees to collect tariffs are still there.

    Changing up tubes

I’ve got an Egnater Tweaker 15 combo that I’ve been using for a while and I really like the three voicing options and overall tweakability. That said I can’t help wanting to tweak the Tweaker a bit more. I’m think about doing some tube swaps. Would putting a 12AY7 in the V1 position be a good...

    External SSD drives

I use the portable Samsung SSD for my audio and graphic files, does well. One has started disconnecting and reconnecting when my computer goes to sleep though so may replace it just to be safe.

Is it possible to create a brickwall limiter that doesn't disort on over the limit peaks?

A brickwall limiter is probably not the best choice if you’re just trying to tame a couple of peaks. With a brickwall, the signal is completely stopped at the ceiling, it’s literally like hitting a wall. Nothing gets through. A regular limiter is basically a very aggressive compressor at a...

I'll give you tree fiddy! Good estimate on the date, the pots are from 1986 which should have the LM308 in it, but can't see in the pics.

    Preamps builds: Figment & Decadence

Looks great! I like the Figment quite a bit, have the decadence in the cue. For the decadence, I have been looking for peavy style knobs without much luck, Ireally like how you incorporated the coloring behind them, may steal borrow that idea!

    Benchtop Drill Press Experiences?

Seconding all these comments, a drill press is a great investment. I was looking to up grade my 8 with some of the models mentioned here but came across a 10" on marketplace for $40. Good shape, works well, just dirty and the AA batteries for the light were about to burst.

    Fulfilling a project BOM

When I first started, I bought spares of anything, especially the way some are priced. Resistors are 1.5 cents each, you need 8, don't get 10 buy 50. Stuff breaks, gets lost, catches on fire or just dies and without backups you’re dead in the water. Having extras also makes future builds way...
