I built a circuit awhile back but if I remember right the trim pot is setting the level or volume of the echoes, or the repeats. I don't know where it's physically set but I said it by ear to have the first repeat approx the same volume as the original signal when the level knob is cranked up.

I would agree with that. Because Krylon is the worst option you have LOL. All kidding aside, I've actually had great results with Rust-Oleum silver Hammer tone paint. I noticed it definitely has to be fresh though. Or it doesn't want to dry. I would recommend you check out the model Masters...
