No international incidents required. You can just wire a 3k3 resistor to lugs 1 and 3 of your 5k pot and you essentially have a 2k linear pot.

Scraping with a fingernail, it scratches off into little flakes. The finish under the scraped part is no longer shiny like the original clear coat, but I might be able to buff some shine back into this section.

I bought this $27 cheapie. [Hiree brand] I know I'll have to buy a proper quality one eventually. The fact that it comes with 10 DC power cables makes it somewhat worthwhile even if it doesn't have a long lifespan. (Or it could be used for a secondary pedal board.)

That looks like a good one. I'm seeing a lot of products with the same configuration as the ENGL. The ENGL looks like the basis of a couple of (what I assume are) knock-offs... Undoubtedly, corners were cut to turn it into a $30 product.
