What is your go to DMM

Uni-t 61e+ is as much money as I could justify dropping on one. It gets the job done but I wouldn’t trust it with mains.

    Solderless PCB Sockets For Testing

I’ve never tried it but last I went looking down this path (I personally just use sip sockets and then do a tiny bit of solder or hot glue to hold the final component in place, for offboard connections and potentiometers screw terminals of different sizes work perfectly) I was gonna try using...

    Bring out yer Diptrace

If that didn’t give it away … Last rinse off before I head to bed! Hopefully will get to fire up this in the morning Edit, couldn’t sleep: 4 gyrators leads to a looooot of knob twiddling but also means killer on bass, guitar and any pickups or tuning.

    Aluminum plates - how?

Etsy is a decent place to look for one-offs of two color ones. I've had some plastic ones made for unrelated stuff at my job but the place also did metal ones.

    Bring out yer Diptrace

You’re on the right track but this one was only around for one year

    Bring out yer Diptrace

Forgot to label the name / description of this PCB before I had to get going to work, so this show and tell is also a guess the circuit. To make it fair, I added two additional gyrators not present in the original (but inspired by another builder's version of the circuit). Background color may...

    Bring out yer Diptrace

It’s such a game changer. I do hate finding components I haven’t setup to my standard grid (I use 0.1in in schematic editor despite using metric in pcb editor) but it’s sooo nice to get really anal about component text placement without having to change it for each schem. Here’s my pdf export...

Curds and whey distortion added to a better overdrive?

You could also use the unused op amp to buffer the VR rail or to implement an active tone filter

Curds and whey distortion added to a better overdrive?

For what it's worth, the wavefolder section of the Prunes & Custard is adapted from a design by Juergen Haible (alt link). Digging into that might come up with people who have done similar stuff based on it as well.

    Acrobat Parametric Distortion

I never use these style of jacks and the FCR14422 is making me feel dumb especially without an enclosure drilled yet - does the plastic regular washer go before the ground washer or are both plastic washers on the outside of the enclosure?

Thanks for posting this update, this one’s been near the top of my list for a while and I’m excited to bang it out

    Gordon 20 in 1 Multi-Tool

Re: leatherman clones & slightly veering off topic There are some absolutely killer quality multitool clones currently being made by Nextool (link to US webstore for perusing, everything can be found cheaper from Chinese retailers). I used the scissors version of mini sailors tool daily at work...

    Good source for wall warts?

Agree with @jwin615, medical power supplies are usually cheap used and can sometimes be found in lots if you don’t mind swapping the polarity. Other small appliance power supplies (some routers, modems, things like that) are also steals. Looking up voltage then amps ie 9V1A has been better in my...

Anyone has a solution for changing faceplate text seamlessly?

I’ve always been tempted to this more for just having some better than completely blank enclosures on hand and then I realize how huge I write with a sharpie / paint marker. Always ends up like this Dry erase or chalk board paint could be interesting depending on the intended vibe. Wouldn’t...

Blu Tack vs Blue Painters Tape

Man this one sent me down a fun rabbit hole. Based on this thread I did buy some orange masking tape but "PCB assembly jig" or "pcb assembly frame" are definitely the better search terms than "pcb holder." John Collier DIY'd one here for ~$100 in parts. A lot documented there is more work than...

Blu Tack vs Blue Painters Tape

I use blu tack but also run into issues described in this thread, for me it's just barely ekes out compared to using tape: it's easier for me to grab a small piece of blu tack vs grabbing tape, it's easier to reposition, etc. It can be harder to remove and get in nooks and crannies but I figure...

    Diode 1N4678 replacement

I know nothing about sourcing in Australia (how do you guys have the best psych rock on the planet the past few decades, btw??) but Mouser australia has the 1N4614 in stock which is also a 1.8 zener. Red LEDs can also fall in the same range for clipping diodes. All of that said, what @Cybercow...

    Tube Amp recommendations

I will echo the recommendations of the Monoprice amp (if you're in Europe Thomann sells the same amp rebadged under Harley Benton and it may be cheaper with shipping factored in). I have no experience with it but have done plenty of research on it and am surprised I don't own one yet. I would...

Harmonic Percolator - Suggestions On Choosing A Version?

Undefeated trick for way heavy fuzz with an HP is a buffer or *very* slight boost in front. Albini tone chasers steer clear.
