    Bring out yer Diptrace

EMG sells a box that basically powers pickups via the ring contact, this is just a lot of power filtering with that, a voltage switch and a separate buffer. https://www.emgpickups.com/accessories/power-supplies/es-918.html

    BS170 alternative?

The pinouts are usually opposite, but you can usually get away with subbing one for the other in most pedal circuits

    Bring out yer Diptrace

"phantom" power for emg pickups, with a high ass impedance buffer for passives (I think Douglas Self said this design is 6.1MΩ). really want to throw actives in the last couple of my guitars with passives but don't want to do any routing.

    Kewpie Fuzz (Bare Enclosure Warning)

Thank you! And yup those are PCBs for the jacks. I really like how low profile they are and they're pretty cheap to boot, but I haven't ever seen them with solder lugs.

    Kewpie Fuzz (Bare Enclosure Warning)

@Ginsly no problem! I use them for exactly the same reason you described - and even though I've built plenty of pedals I still find them to be super useful for making debugging easier, or just to scrounge footswitches and jacks from a pedal I don't use often, etc. I use them on every single...

    Kewpie Fuzz (Bare Enclosure Warning)

I order 2.54mm pitch screw terminals from a few places. - On AliExpress, the Locheuk Connector store has free shipping over $18, which can end up being the cheapest option depending on how many I'm buying: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2255800681269043.html - Tayda sells 2 and 3 position...

    Kewpie Fuzz (Bare Enclosure Warning)

No luck yet!! I’ve spent maybe a half hour at least every day for a few weeks at the shop and still can’t find any that I like, and I’ve maybe only even found 4 total. There’s tons online but I didn’t think it’d be so hard to find one considering we have hundreds of tattoo books at the shop

    Fuzz face and buffers

I play fuzz faces with active pickup guitars all the time and don’t mind it at all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Kewpie Fuzz (Bare Enclosure Warning)

One of these days I’ll actually not be lazy and actually do this, which was half the reason I made those boards in the first place

    Kewpie Fuzz (Bare Enclosure Warning)

If you hadn’t already posted a layout draft in the wishlist thread by the time I saw it I would have bought the original instantly. I still probably will. It’s just mind boggling how good it is. And the URA switch is like a fucking atom bomb !!!

    Kewpie Fuzz (Bare Enclosure Warning)

Hands down the best muff I’ve ever built, played or heard. Blown the fuck away. Somehow solves everything I don’t like about some variants while keeping everything I like about those variants. I’m working on enclosure art (...

    Solder fume extractor

I have this. As far as “extraction” goes its useless, but its nice to keep flux smoke out of my nose. I mostly bought it to reduce bench space took up by the light and previous fan I had and it was worth it for that.

FYI-Tayda matte vs gloss clear coat

I still have yet to have an enclosure design with a matte clear layer that I like. I always gave ended up regretting it. I think 9 times out of 10 if you want ‘matte’ you should just not do any clear coat layer

Breadboard Quality - Stick With Brand Name?

I personally prefer using ones like the first link for most of my breadboarding, but I like having options and I think it’s really just a matter of personal preference (other than connecting offboard components), the plastic ended jumpers are usually easier to work with but the bare ones cut to...

Breadboard Quality - Stick With Brand Name?

I have a few busboards and a few from global specialities (similar price point). they're worth the price, easily. I thought I hated breadboarding, turns out I just hated using crappy ones. I'm sure decent cheap ones can be found but I haven't found them yet.

    TL072 vs "TL072"

If you’re looking to save money, I’ve been buying TL072s made by HGSemi and UTC from LCSC for personal and prototype builds and saving TI chips for commissions. Can’t recall if I’ve used one in a clean circuit though. As a longtime and frequent AliExpress chip gambler LCSC has pretty much...

In Search Of… (post the obscure parts you need help finding)

@JTEX Have you looked into using an LDO & Buck converter in parallel to switch over as the efficiency of one overcomes the other? https://e2e.ti.com/blogs_/b/powerhouse/posts/how-to-improve-buck-converter-light-load-efficiency-with-an-ldo-part-1 or is the 17555 already more efficient than that?

Please recommend a black 3PDT + dress nut (that fits)

I totally agree with you about the footprint of those too, only real reason I don’t use them

Whats your Vin, Vout and any quiescent current requirements? The LT3470 might hit that efficiency depending on Vin and Vout but I can’t remember the switching frequency range
