You don’t need to install R17 at all. One of the holes for R17 connects to pt2399 pin6, and the other hole connects to delay pot hole3 on the seabed pcb. You can figure out which R17 hole connects to pin6 either by visually looking at the traces or using the beep setting on a multimeter...

These are to protect mosfets from static discharge. I believe it’s a vulnerability unique to mosfets, in terms of common pedal components. At least that’s the main place I see these, besides charge pumps. It’s used on the zvex SHO (PPCB crackle booster) and amz mosfet booster.

The circuit has a low cut filter (R8&C5) at 1.5kHz, which is pretty high. This might contribute to the harsh high mids people are describing. You could try increasing C5 (or running another cap in parallel) and see if that helps balance it out.

If you remove the charge pump from socket, you can jumper pin5-3, and then you should be able to test the whole circuit (bypass and effect), all working at around 9V. It’ll sound fine, maybe get into a little op amp clipping with gain and/or treble cranked, but should still sound Klon-ish
