Im assuming that GPCB Roto-Tone board is a mod board. I have one of those and they definitely come in handy even while using a breadboard. I can keep playing and turn the rotary switch to instantly hear the different in components.

Your best bet is to research the "classics" under the hood and be able to discern the different topologies. A muff looks VERY different than a rat or tubescreamer on a schematic. Then start branching out from there. You biggest hurdle, IMO, will be fuzz territory unless you do your homework on...

Call me BJT biased (pun intended), but I am a fan of the circuit design contests. It's a pretty cool way to see what people come up with and you might learn something too along the way (gasp). Raffles, giveaways, and "Guess the Number" aren't really contests IMO, but rather a fun way to engage...

I think the "pop" is the powering on of the circuit? Pedals are normally "always on" when DC is plugged in

I choose Tayda over Amazon any day. I've only had 1 problem with one of them from Tayda years ago and they made good on it and gave me a full refund for it.
