Hi-gain modern fuzz that isn't muddy/has clear note definition?

Interesting, I saw a post requesting the mini version of that on the forums here: https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/smallsound-bigsound-mini.4150/ Looks like the guy who made it is apparently open with the schematic. And the ol' reliable tagboardeffects has a post on it...

Hi-gain modern fuzz that isn't muddy/has clear note definition?

Adam jone's fuzz sounding effects. Again, I know people say he doesn't but there's no way that's just amp tones on the chorus of forty six & 2: Or all throughout jimmy: And I know it's the game changer audio plasma pedal on 7empest, but if I could get a fuzz sounding close to that, it would...

Hi-gain modern fuzz that isn't muddy/has clear note definition?

Yep, no problem with vero. I'll try that too at some stage.

Hi-gain modern fuzz that isn't muddy/has clear note definition?

Yep, that's probably the most sensible thing to say tbh. But! I am not necessarily the most sensible person in the world ;) I have heard some fuzz sounds that are really clear (like those used by Adam Jones of Tool - I know most of hist fuzz-esque tones are just stacked amps, double tracked, but...

Hi-gain modern fuzz that isn't muddy/has clear note definition?

I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but I'm looking for high gain fuzz with a 'modern' sound plenty of sustain, but doesn't just sound like mush when pushed really hard. Any DIY projects you folks have tried that might fit the bill? I've got a few fuzzes I own and have tried, like for...

    Re-capping old pedals???

Caps get old and start dropping in capacitance and acting more like resistors. This happens in amps, computers, phones (not that anyone keeps a phone around long enough for this to ever matter lol) and it happens in pedals. Electrolytic caps are particularly vulnerable to aging due to their...

DEMO Hobie- Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion

Fair enough. I think newer DS-2 pedals replace 1SS-133 diodes with 1N4148's because that's all that's in mine. Solder joints look factory on them. I am definitely worrying too much about the hard clipping diodes in D14 and D15 on the original, where the 1SS-188fm's go. In fact, I think the...

DEMO Hobie- Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion

You know what, I'm currently very confused as to what the 1SS 188FM diode even is. I did some double checking and now I haven't a clue whether it's a germanium or silicon, 1VF or 0.3VF part. Does anyone have on good authority what this part even is 😭

DEMO Hobie- Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion

Yeah that probably gets me close to the ~1v VF of the 133 188. I *think* the 1n60 germanium diode is pretty bang on too, and it's available to me from musikding. I think I might go with that, unless I'm missing something obvious and it's just a bad idea.

DEMO Hobie- Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion

Out of curiosity, what diodes are you using instead of the 1ss 188 diodes found in the original? Some genius who previously owned my DS-2 decided to replace those with 3mm red leds haha

Getting the Boss DS-2 to work with relay based true bypass

Hello! Because I am an incredibly poor judge of what the best use of my time is, I decided to take a TH Custom NOPE relay bypass board and hook it up to the internals of my Boss DS-2 (that the previous owner apparently modded to make sound worse, but that's a different story) so that the stock...

SOLVED Boss DS-2 stock diode configuration? (Or, did the previous owner mess with this thing?)

Yeah I probably will return it to stock. Those LEDs have a fV of like 2V. When I actually had this working before I took it apart (ages ago at this stage) I remember it getting way louder than I was expecting. This makes sense if you have higher fV in clipping stages (obviously). I wonder if...

SOLVED Boss DS-2 stock diode configuration? (Or, did the previous owner mess with this thing?)

Hello! I have a second hand boss ds-2 that I am converting to true bypass using a relay (there is no good reason for this - this is in all likelihood a complete waste of time) and I noticed that compared to the schematics, some of the diodes were not as they are 'supposed' to be. If you look at...

Looking to build a relay bypass where you can switch between momentary and latching on the fly

Ah I see, I completely misunderstood the documentation for it then. Thanks for clarifying. I still think for my needs, I'd need to build a relay that I can intentionally switch between momentary and toggle, with no timing ambiguity that could mess it up. Thanks!

MODIFICATION The FZ-1 - CB style

Just out of morbid curiosity, why is this? I know the same is said about Devi Ever's Hyperion 2 with the oscillation control. I've seen some claims about how the circuit is required to be 'unstable' or whatever, but unfortunately for my inquisitive mind, this just isn't a good enough answer for...

MODIFICATION The FZ-1 - CB style

Thanks for the information. I'm trying to put together an understanding of how this stuff works one step at a time haha. It's fairly clear to me now what is meant by, "turning the circuit upside down." (y)

Looking to build a relay bypass where you can switch between momentary and latching on the fly

That's my fault for not being clear, no worries ;) What I'm actually looking for is a bypass circuit that uses both a momentary push button and a toggle switch: The toggle should switch between two modes for the bypass of the octave effect, latching and momentary. In latching mode, with the...

Looking to build a relay bypass where you can switch between momentary and latching on the fly

Thanks for the quick response! Just to clarify, are you suggesting I use one relay to control another relay that's doing the bypassing of the circuit?

Looking to build a relay bypass where you can switch between momentary and latching on the fly

My friend and I are looking to put some silly stuff into his guitar - one idea was a simple no knob analogue octave a la the green ringer. I threw out the idea that he could use a momentary push button to either toggle the effect or have it on only whilst holding the button, and it was a hit...

MODIFICATION The FZ-1 - CB style

Sorry, I know this isn't the point of this thread at all, but at the end of your first post on your note about PNP vs NPN transistors, you mention using a negative ground for PNP and how, for example, the Way Huge conquistador just turned the circuit, "upside down." Would I be correct in...
