    High gain

Hi Phil & everybody, I finished the Solid Metal Pro a few days ago. It's amazing, I have to say. For starters it sounds good, as expected when you know the "small" version already. Now there are three controls for the EQ instead of just one. And you have two more controls for the gate (a pot...

    First Oscilloscope Recommendations

I ordered a DSO154PRO, too, after seeing a shootout of some of these on youtube. Part 1 Part 2 There's apparently two versions, 1M and 18M or something. I think the 18M comes with a better probe (10:1?). Anyway, I'm waiting for it to arrive. Hope I can wrap my head around it once it's here.

    High gain

There's a quick comparison between Ember and Solid Metal in Musikding forum. Link Maybe you can run it through a translator if you're interested.

    High gain

Tight Metal is my favorite as well. I built both Aion's and PCB Mania's version of it. I built a lot of other distortions as well, but the TM beats them all in my opinion. I'm currently waiting for the PCB Mania Solid Metal Pro PCB to arrive in my mailbox. I hope to be able to get the side track...

This Week on the Breadboard: The Golden F**k

Thanks for the tips regarding Vp and Idss! I finished one of these bad boys yesterday (with stock values) and it's easily one of my favorite distortion pedals. Like Temol I like it more gainy, so 1987 mode it is for me, but the other two sound great as well. And I love how the pedal cleans up...

Thank you Chuck! Like everybody else I appreciate you sharing your insights!

    JFET Biasing - part 1

Hello Chuck, everybody, In the first entry it says: "The only restrictions are Id has to be smaller than Idss ..." Here's the link to the PedalPCB Simple JFET Buffer: https://docs.pedalpcb.com/project/Buffer-TH.pdf To me it looks pretty much the same as the Covert output buffer, except Rs is...

Bellum MkII - does this sound about right?

Sounds about it right. And when you turn down the "Fuzz" knob you hear the diode distortion in the background. That's how I remember it.

Bellum MkII - does this sound about right?

I built one for a friend of mine (bass player). Incidentally the Ge Diodes disintegrated in my hands when bending the leads, so I put BAT41s in it, too :) It has this sound signature where there seem to be two different sources of clipping, one more fuzzy and one more distortion-like in the...

    Cetus Charge Pump noise

Personally I like the Pineapple. Because the Pineapple and the Monarch clean up very nicely (on the Pineapple the Boost needs to be off for that, on the Monarch I can't remember right now, I think it might clean up fine with the Boost on). I do like to drive them with a Dragons Breath up front...

SqueezeBox - 2-in-1 Compressors (General Tso and MBP Kompromat)

Nice looking pedal, very tidy build! I use matte acrylic varnish where the can says "non-yellowing". And so far I have not seen any yellowing, so the can keeps its promise. Maybe look for a different varnish?

    Closed Circuit Booster Limiter

I got this pedal built as well. When I turn the Limiter clockwise I can hear a little difference. It kind of limits the volume a bit. I set the Limiter counter clockwise and the boost up so it overdrives the sound a little. When I turn the limiter clockwise the output gradually decreases...

    Cetus Charge Pump noise

With the Cetus I also get a whine when I go into the Muzzle noise gate. My Cetus has a 7660S charge pump. The Muzzle has a LT1054 charge bump. When I pull the power on the Muzzle (or the Cetus) and keep it in bypass then the whine disappears. I think this is what people call heterodyning...

    Thumb Sucker ratio knob behavior

If you want me to measure anything, IC voltages or whatever, let me know. Happy to help.

    Thumb Sucker ratio knob behavior

Attack to 0, Release to 4, Thresh to 10 (scale of 0 through 10, not o'clock). Level at 8. Ratio CCW and I got dry signal at good volume. I turn Ratio up to 2-3 and it feels a tad louder, but it might just be perceived and not real. Then I dial Ratio higher, slowly, till CW and I don't perceive...

    DEMO Thumbsucker Compressor (Engineers Thumb)

Not saying you're using it wrong, but for starters in my humble opinion you wouldn't want to ride the Attack knob that high when playing guitar. Maybe start by treating it like a two knob compressor. Put Attack to 0, Release to 4, Thresh to 10. Then just use the Ratio knob to dial it in and set...

DEMO The Boomstick - PCB Guitar Mania Solid Metal (AmpTweaker TightMetal)

On OP's pic the PCB says version 1.1. On your pic it doesn't. I boxed up a 1.1 yesterday and it shreds. Maybe ask PCB Mania for the differences between the versions? Maybe there's an easy way to fix. Or maybe to get a refund at least.

    Electrovibe not vibing

Hi Alec, below mine. I added Q14 and Q15. Please note that my LT1054 pin 1 is lifted (because my PCB has pin 1 and 8 shorted; not that I needed to lift the leg, was just a bit superstitious I guess ;)). Measurements taken on Speed 1 (Speed 1 LED on), no input/output cable connected, all pots...
