J201 substitute? Oh no, not again...

GuitarPCB has J201s in stock. Worked great in some recent builds.

where to go from here? (drive pedal blues)

Agree on the Nobels ODR-1! Really a wide range on tap, from light, spanky OD, to full distortion. The only mod I'd add (which the ODR-1 reissue includes) is a bass cut switch. As you boost the tone, not only does it get brighter, but also bassier - the bass cut keeps that in check. And...

    Moonshot Tremolo issue

Don't know specific voltages, but I always start with the "known" voltages - pin 4 must be at ground/0V, and pin 8 at around 9V.

    DEMO Karaoke chorus

I'm just sayin... you gotta change your user name

    DEMO [Vero] Mu-Tron Phasor II

Most excellent! As a vero-builder, I can appreciate what a great build you have there. That's a big-a$$ piece of stripboard! Really nice work, and it sounds great,

    Bluesbreaker ain't bluesbreaking

A suggestion (for anyone who doesn't already do this)... when polulating a PCB or vero, orient all resistors left>right, or top>down. What I mean by that is for resistor bands, it's good form to have the color bands read from left-to-right, or from the top to the bottom (if oriented vertically)...

    Rangemaster OC140 (Vero Content)

    A work of art!

    I don't know jack

Gotta stagger them in those skinny/1590A enclosures! It's amazing how much space you can free up using Lumberg jacks, along with a compact 3PDT switch

    Cetus technical difficulties

Detailed pictures - front and back... then we can troubleshoot. But, strange that the same symptom exists on two builds. Are all your diodes oriented correctly? If you'd like something to compare against (my working build):

Cetus (Kraken) - Maybe the Best PedalPCB High Gain Distortion?

Quick follow-up to this post... Still loving the Cetus/Kraken, but find the noise floor is a bit higher than I was hoping for (yes, somewhat to be expected with a high gain pedal). Anyone else build one, and how do you find the noise level? Anyone have the original to compare it to? In this...

    J Mascis Jazzmaster Pickup Upgrade

Fender specs for these pups: DC Resistance Neck Pickup: 7.27K, Bridge Pickup: 7.31K Your bridge does seem a bit low

    I don't know jack

I do side-mounted jacks on all my builds, and with the PedalPCB boards, the PCB lands up being quite far back (towards the stomp switch.) The small footprint of the Lumberg jacks helps a lot in allowing everything to fit. Not a problem if using top-mounted jacks. For my vero builds, I...

    Must buy from Small Bear?

I live a couple of miles from their shop, so stop in whenever I need something to complete a build. One thing I will tell you is that their website inventory does not always reflect what they actually have in stock. If you see something on the site that you want, but it says out of stock, send...

    A Couple of Golden Greats

I do all my graphics in PowerPoint, of all things! So easy to use. Then laser print waterslide decals. Was using an inkjet printer, but inkjet decals can be a pain to work with - laser is so much more predictable. The key to success with waterslides is the coating and finishing. Once I...

    The John and Cobbler Preamps

Cetus is fantastic! Great range of high gain tones, but drop the gain, boost the mids and highs, and you've got great classic rock/old school metal Marshall tones. I can't recommend it enough.

    The Oracle

    That's pro-level! Nice work.

    A Couple of Golden Greats

Haven't posted any builds in a while, so I figured I show a couple of really golden builds! PedalPCB Kliché Mini, and a vero build of the Colombo Plexi Breed. Of course, the PedalPCB builds are always super-clean, but I guess I did OK with the Plexi Breed, especially with the amount of...

    J Mascis Jazzmaster Pickup Upgrade

Sounds like it could be a grounding issue. Just for grins, check the DC resistance - plug a patch cable into the the guitar, and measure resistance - should be around 7.3K for the bridge pup. If not, might be a bad pickup. Interested to hear how these sound once you've got it sorted out. I...
