Just picked up a Hakko FX-888D and it rules, but I think the tip is a bit big. I've peeked at their tip guide, but why not get advice from people doing the same thing as me? What's your favorite tip & temp? (I'm using Kester 60/40 .8mm .031" solder)

I initially had the IC in the socket, but now have it removed. I'd recommend still installing a socket so you have flexibility should you decide you prefer it one way or the other

I use green painters tape to hold my components in place, I tried bluetack/poster putty and didn't love it

Which version of macOS are you on? I've yet to get a terrarium friendly .bin while compiling in macOS (the blink example does blink, but no macOS compiled bins pass audio or give working leds)

I'm sure that's probably true, there are some IG posts by gorva where they talk about the deMont switches (they sent some out for research), once I get some in a completed build I'll compare some of the more common 3pdt options in a video

Just got some in the mail, and they are nice, but they aren't at the same level of soft touch or quietness as deMont or a soft touch using the ppcb relay (which makes sense given the huge price difference) Definitely going to be using these on builds that aren't in need of being super premium...
