Stupid question number 245: bipolar power

Ah ok. So the designer would start off with the power supply and then design the circuit - or start off with the circuit and then build a power supply for it? I realise this is the questions that would be covered in term one lesson one of an electrical engineering course but my google searches...

Stupid question number 245: bipolar power

So I’ve built a load of pedals, Mutron clone, Aion’s L4 preamp PPCBs skeptical buffer who have used bipolar power supply’s. Most others use a monopolar power supply (if that’s what it’s called) +9v and gnd with the vref being fed into the input … I get that bipolar power supply is how older op...

“Up, Down, Daddy!” / Pearl OC-07

I’ve done pcba before but just done resistors, diodes and some ICs and ceramic caps- always been unsure if film caps can just be switched for mlcc. Have you used JLC PCBA for electrolytic?

    Commercial Build vs DIY Build

I work in marketing, and as a graphic designer have the ability to make really really pretty things. I’ve also fallen into product design things before and the last build of a small batch of things I sold were beautiful wee things that looked amazing and I was designing in quicker assembly...

    stupid question about Tayda/PPCB drilling....

quick question that's possibly so obvious that I've missed something... Tayda's PPCB drill templates are all listed as "sold out" - why? when do they become available?

    Help identifying coupling caps

it's interesting - on a compressor you might want more bass in the signal, but less into the detection circuit so the thump of your E string doesn't over compress...

Are these stomp switches the same?

spb I saw they had reissued them as something similar - what’s wrong with the new ones?

Are these stomp switches the same?

I'm having issues finding real Lumberg DC jacks. The mini ones, Are any of the non-real ones ok or is it a crap shoot?

    What's on the workbench?

so in this situation they (not chase bliss) use it to digitally program a set of analogue audio circuits. So turned off it’s a load of components on a pcb with a load of gates, when it loads in the firmware an analogue circuit is created. Change the firmware and a different circuit is created.

    What's on the workbench?

I'm still waiting for the Quake Fuzz @Robert is working on (maybe called something else, but that's what iD did after Doom2 isn't it?) :D (stupid name suggestion No. 23)

    What's on the workbench?

does one of us have to go add a load of chase bliss pedals on the wish list now? - I'm sure would be fun and super easy to trace/build  on that note, I was having a chat with my brother who works in the erm live music hardware sector... and he was convinced chase bliss are using FPGA in...

    Epic fail recovery (L4 functioning)

also share photos of your boards - might be one of our eagle eyes might spot something. Mine works and is the closest to an helix amp sim in solid state I've heard - big fat complex tone. Then I rebought a HX stomp and retired it

    Epic fail recovery (L4 functioning)

You can test if it's the power supply by measuring the voltage on +15 and -15 coming off the breakout boards. It might be the first time someone points out a positive about Aion's breakout boards, but testing this one is one of them!

Skeptical buffer introduces noise when harmonics switch engaged

have you tried it with a basic setup? guitar-pedal-amp - and then the power to the pedal not connected to anything else? does changing your guitar pickup selection and volume/tone change the noise? It's possible the high input impedance is making something audible that's being filtered out...
