    Fuzz control capacitor values

I tried it a bunch of times, including with the circuit live, to hear the difference. I also tried some very low cap values to see if it made the problem worse. Everything did what I expected it to - 10nf was choked and barely passed sound, 0.1uf slightly better, 10uf low notes fuzzy, 22uf works...

    Fuzz control capacitor values

Q1 = +1.15VDC Q2 = +4.71VDC I did a lot of searching, and it seems like that's pretty typical for a Si Fuzz Face. Please let me know if you agree!

    Fuzz control capacitor values

I was playing around with a Si Fuzz Face this weekend on the breadboard, and it just wasn't doing enough. Voltages were all where they should have been, but the fuzz died out too fast and high notes were nearly clean. The decay would fizzle out, too. I tried a bunch of different transistors with...

How do you straighten component leads?

Needle nose pliers. Insert the lead longwise into the jaws, pinch, rotate, repeat. Works wonders.

suggestions for fuzz circuit to be made as a "one knob on top" pedal

I got into building using his PCBs! They're really good. Highly recommend the Grey One, the One Knob Fuzz, and the Matcha.

Ge transistor temp compensation with a single diode

I'll have to cop that technique :sneaky:

Green Ringer/Tentacle transistor and diode selection

Based on the link you posted and 2089s being PNP, I assume you meant 5089s? Unless you have an all-PNP version, which I'd be interested to see!

Green Ringer/Tentacle transistor and diode selection

I didn't, because I didn't really like the sound of the Si diodes. I'd assume they're similar to the Germanium diodes, maybe with a stronger effect?

Green Ringer/Tentacle transistor and diode selection

I really like analog octave up, and I have been messing around with one on my breadboard today. I used the Tentacle schematic to start, with 2N5089 and 2N3096 transistors, and 1N4148 diodes. This works well, and sounds pretty good. I have a bunch of transistors and diodes to choose from, though...

    Boosters and SS amps

In short, it depends on the amp. If it's one that breaks up in a way you like when you push the front end, then yes! You might like a dirty boost better, so you get some more character. With that said, the used gear market is cooling down and now is a great time to get your first tube amp...

    Schu-tone DM-3

"Tied together" was my (poor) attempt at explaining what was happening. Thank you for bearing with me, and for your explanation! It helps. With both bias trimpots at about noon, the 200Hz sine wave sounds pure, using my headphones as a reference. If I move one of the bias trimpots out of that...

    Schu-tone DM-3

I have the gain trimmer at about the max it can go, before it just makes a little sputtering sound and stops outputting anything. There's a sweet spot in a little bit of the range of the pot travel where it doesn't do that, but it doesn't seem to really affect the volume of the initial note too...

    Schu-tone DM-3

Behold, the Schu-Tone version of the DM-3! This bad boy can do 600ms of delay, boingy sproingy slapback, and everything in between. The stacked boards work really well, and using tantalum capacitors made everything fit really well. I had to use a too-large film capacitor on the top board...

    Tychobrahe Octave Fuzz (etched PCB)

I've been wanting to try an Octavia. Where did you source the transformer?

Ge transistor temp compensation with a single diode

I found an interesting discussion on Stackexchange: https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/49112/why-would-you-attach-a-diode-to-the-base-of-a-bjt Has anyone tried this? Seems like you can simply add a Ge diode with comparable leakage to ground at your Ge transistor's base, and have...

    Digital microscope recommendations

If you have a spare $17K lying around, a used Leica would last the rest of your life and be incredible. The lab I work at has a few, and they are SO NICE.

    My first veroboard build!

Just finished boxing this build up about 5 minutes ago. I went for a bare 1590B with top jacks, since I have some, I like the bare metal look with the old-school skirted knob, and I hate side jacks. How did I manage to almost perfectly hand drill the extremely tight top jack holes, but I got the...

    My first veroboard build!

I have had a really great, dialed-in germanium Rangemaster sitting on my breadboard for a few weeks. Today I decided to finally commit it to a permanent board! It worked first try, but I forgot a resistor in series with the E-B diode and things were out of whack - too little gain, mostly. Can...

What is your favorite "Big Muff" circuit, and why?

That makes sense. I use fuzz for "classic" stuff, and mostly for lead guitar. Metal stuff is TS --> Mesa
