SOLVED Butt Head Pedal Not Working Correctly

Seconded with jimilee -- forcing yourself to find the problem makes solving other stupid problems that will show up in the future easier. Don't ask me how I know: I keep making stupid errors.

This Week on the Breadboard: Shallow Water

I’m slowly putting the schematic together to build a board. Should I go 1590BB size or try to go stacked 125B? Personally, I’m aiming for stacked 125B, but I’ve never done that before. Thoughts?

SOLVED Butt Head Pedal Not Working Correctly

When I read the symptoms of how the potentiometers didn’t quite act right, it makes me wonder if the grounding isn’t solid. Just a thing to check. And don’t shotgun replace the electrolytics. It was only a thought because there are a handful of 10uF connected via a resistor to ground on the...

SOLVED Butt Head Pedal Not Working Correctly

I did some thinking. I’m wondering if the grounding isn’t solid - as in it’s not all connected together or not well grounded to the chassis. Barring that, I would think a bad capacitor somewhere, like a bad electrolytic

    What's on the workbench?

Once you start fooling with stripboards, you’ll start getting into the hard stuff: perfboard, wire wrapping, and dead bugging your prototypes.

SOLVED Butt Head Pedal Not Working Correctly

Weird shot in the dark - are those ceramic capacitors okay? Sometimes I’ve had leads pull and split the capacitor. Looking at the schematic and where there’s issues, there’s 50pf caps there. Other stab at it - what about the electrolytics? Are they good? Correct orientation? Just a couple...

This Week on the Breadboard: The Runoff Groove Thunderbird

That’s true (forgot to consider that). I was thinking amps that are similar to where Marshall puts their EQ - Hiwatt, etc. It’s more of an exercise in thinking and experimenting. Probably head in the clouds thinking, but makes the two interconnected hamster cages operating in opposite directions...

This Week on the Breadboard: The Runoff Groove Thunderbird

So, this got me thinking if this overall topology can be tuned to other amps. I will need to grab a breadboard and some frequency sims.

Scratching My Head! Aion Fx Aurum

Maybe check c4? It might have overheated something or you bumped a lead and it broke? Not likely, but another place to look. It might not hurt to reflow the connections after Q3 up to the drive pot. One side of the c4 solder joint looks a bit skimpy on the solder

Madbean Nom Nom - Phase 90

Om Nom is such a fun character in that silly game.

What's up with Deadend FX? "Temporarily closed until further notice"

I jumped to the Facey-books and it sounds like they're out for surgery for a couple months. I just needed to know where to find the build docs in case I want to tweak my Purple Playtpus build to bypass the octave setting (because it still kind of bleeds over) so it's just regular LLama.

    Alternative for 2n4062?

Also, if you wanted, you could flip the polarity of the electrolytics to ground (negative ground instead of positive ground), but you'd have to find an NPN germanium (robert has some good Russian ones that are about 100hfe). Then you could used 2n3904 or some fun old stock NPN silicons (like...

    Alternative for 2n4062?

Looks like the 2N4062 is a lower gain PNP silicon. So maybe a modern 2n3906 will work. That should get you pointed down the right path.

This Week on the Breadboard: Shallow Water

When I get time (unless someone gets to it), I’ll try my hand at a board. I’m not great, but I’ll give it a shot.

    Could We Do This?

So, they basically had a cathode-biased 6L6 twin? (Well, the fixed bias is still there). No wonder it felt different. Aleph’s “slap a JFet/Mosfet” would be doable. Maybe branching off of ROG’s Thunderbird but adjust the “output” to be more ‘squishy’?

Stuff you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

I found it! It’s a place to put a jumper wire if you use a LTC1144 (or whatever charge pump ends in 1144). You find it by where the charge pump is in the schematic with a note.

I was thinking deuterium as a pedal name.

This Week on the Breadboard: Shallow Water

This is great. Do I have a Shallow Water? No. Do I need to build Chuck’s Heavy Water? Nope. Will I probably put it on the pile of things to build? Likely:

    💖 Stay Alive ✨ Top Five of '25 💖

So far this year (because I have about 3-5 that I might be able to finish before the end of the year), but in no particular order 1. Deeptronics Freeze module pedal 2. Nobels ODR-C 3. Fuzz Aldrin (but still testing a few transistors) ** ** this ranking is under review (I was checking voltages...
