I recently socketed a BSIAB which calls for 3 stages with those jfets. My experience was that the 2n5457 and thd j201 had a slight difference in gain, but the mpf102 was remarkably lower that the other two. I settled with the 2n5457 being in the middle.

Should work fine with 9volt source up to ±7.5 volt.

Hfe depends on the current in the circuit (and on the testing device).

Good to know. As i understand in most cases not every single output on power supply is completely isolated from each other on a own tap of the transformator. The VL PP2+ it seem to have 1 to 4 on one tap, 5+6 on one and 7+8 on another. The 4x4 seem to have 4 different taps.

You have to dump the charge pump first, but yah right, you need +18v and -9v for a Kliche.

Maybe it's very outsided advise, but thats what I do to get 18v for a pedal. I bought an voltage doubling cable from Voodoo Lab, which is optional for the Voodoo Lab pedal power 2 plus. No troubles with oscillations.

I like my 5F1 clone at lower volume in the raw mode. I do this with switching the standard NFB resistor to a 1meg resistor via a pull push pot. The 1meg resistor gives me a very tiny amount of feedback. This helps to dampen peaks a tiny bit. Since the 22k resistor is a kind of middle way...
