Understanding the Cornish style buffer (C-Buffer)

Hey it’s just bad timing that the other thread is so fresh in everyone’s minds haha. I can’t necessarily help with the calculations, but I’ve read many places that it’s that its a “Bootstrap” concept. Attached is a snippet from the Wikipedia on “Bootstrapping (electronics)”. I’ve seen the...

I’ve thought about double tap also. I think you will end up with a lag on single press. How does the chip know if you will press it a second time? It has to wait a specified length to be sure there won’t be a second press. So on single press, it won’t do the on/off function until after it...

NSFW What's up with the buffers in cornish designs?

At one point several years ago I had read enough hype about the Cornish buffer that I built one, thought it was pleasant and that’s been my go to standalone buffer. Maybe we need a pcb with 3-4 buffer types selectable on a rotary switch. Maybe simple BJT (like TS), simple op amp (like...

Digital BBD concept looking for comments and beta testers

I’m curious, is there a general consensus on whether the BBD chips themselves impart any tone characteristics, or if the tone of analog delays (etc) is entirely derived from the filtering in the rest of the circuit? I like the idea of having more options for time based effects, and I think the...

    Belton brick vs fv-1

I don’t find the Belton brick to be all that springy (which is good for my taste). You can hear some individual echoes, but not a lot of the wet splashy sound of reverb. The 3-verb patch may be able to be edited for longer decay or stronger mix. Someone went pretty in depth with a patch...

    Dino Flavored Big Muff...

You could also consider the tone job circuit for the eq (it can be simplified to fewer op amp stages but keep the filter values). I’ve built the tone job, not the cold Turkey, so not sure wxactly how they compare, but similar concept with different filter values

tap module on the Seabed Delay?

I’d try adding a wire to a pot to mimic the seabed delay pot, to see if it’s the delay circuit. No need r17, just don’t turn the delay pot all the way to zero

tap module on the Seabed Delay?

You don’t need to install R17 at all. One of the holes for R17 connects to pt2399 pin6, and the other hole connects to delay pot hole3 on the seabed pcb. You can figure out which R17 hole connects to pin6 either by visually looking at the traces or using the beep setting on a multimeter...

    Facemelter diode question

These are to protect mosfets from static discharge. I believe it’s a vulnerability unique to mosfets, in terms of common pedal components. At least that’s the main place I see these, besides charge pumps. It’s used on the zvex SHO (PPCB crackle booster) and amz mosfet booster.

Is there a way to change what frequenices clip more than others?

It’s typical to cut bass before clipping to avoid muddines, and cut treble after clipping to avoid harshness. If done just right, your tone with clipping can sound neutral ( like how the Timmy cuts bass and treble in this way. Depending on gain setting, you cut bass and treble to get back to a...

    Sunflower Fuzz Battery Mod

Sadly the TC chip is upside down! The semi-circle notch should be at the top (matching the pcb marking). It will be a challenge to desolder and save the chip, so you may need a new chip. Desoldering also has the possibility of damaging the pcb by over-heating the pads around the hole. I...

Pre-gain high cut to the Informant overdrive

The circuit has a low cut filter (R8&C5) at 1.5kHz, which is pretty high. This might contribute to the harsh high mids people are describing. You could try increasing C5 (or running another cap in parallel) and see if that helps balance it out.

Kliche mini choking out bypassed signal

If you remove the charge pump from socket, you can jumper pin5-3, and then you should be able to test the whole circuit (bypass and effect), all working at around 9V. It’ll sound fine, maybe get into a little op amp clipping with gain and/or treble cranked, but should still sound Klon-ish

    Uni-Vibe Wet Dry Dial MOD!

Big Monk is killing it. I was about to say something similar, but with 47k/100k pot/47k. That would be more range, but big monks method of more fine tuning might work better. So play around with it. You could also try 75k/50k pot/75k. The idea is that at the center of the pot, it comes out to...

V=i*R (fundamental electronics formula, which here I=current. We know how much voltage drops across the led (forward voltage, so the remainder of the voltage will drop through the resistor (when current is flowing, as Robert said). So to find out the current, we do i=(Vin - Vled) / R Let’s...
