SOLVED trouble with (multiple) Civil War muff builds

My response has been very similar to Charlie Brown… I wondered if it was a bad pot. After this weekend, I’m off all next week so I’m going to try to dig into it then.

SOLVED trouble with (multiple) Civil War muff builds

Reflowed everything. Using the audio probe with a tone generator, I have tone throughout, some louder than others, but always tone. I imagine I’m crossed somewhere but I can’t seem to find it.

SOLVED trouble with (multiple) Civil War muff builds

Back from work and staring at the board again. 4.3v at q1-3 and almost 5 on q4. Tracing back from output with audio probe shows a pretty significant volume drop at the tone bypass switch. I did crank the amp and there is output from the pedal, just much lower volume than unity. Edit: Removed...

SOLVED trouble with (multiple) Civil War muff builds

thanks! I never tried to fill out both sides, worried that would be too much solder. I’ll work on it!

SOLVED trouble with (multiple) Civil War muff builds

Diagram I found was reversed. And I used them in my Dope Priest reversed and that pedal sounds great! I’m completely at a loss. I need to go through it with the audio probe but wondered if just looking at it, someone might see something obvious since it’s two separate builds with the same issue.

SOLVED trouble with (multiple) Civil War muff builds

I’m plugging it into a PPCB auditorium. There isn’t an LED (I used the 3pdt board with LED). Bypass is fine but no signal when turned on. I’m not defensive about the soldering but if you can explain what’s wrong with it I’d appreciate it. They’re soldered from the bottom, small teardrops and...

SOLVED trouble with (multiple) Civil War muff builds

i have now tried two separate PCB builds with the Civil War muff specs from the Muffin Fuzz pcb and neither has been functional. i'm not sure what is going on. I've built them the same way as the multiple Triangles and the Dope Priest that have worked fine. I am using the KT3102EM transistors...

I always put the washer on… it’s muscle memory to grab it and throw it on.

    william - a D*A*M FZ-673 homage

Finished this up this morning. I have been working on pedal finishing and am still not happy with it but getting better. Tried some spray enamel on the enclosure and got some rippling at the top right so I think I must have gone a little heavy there. Transistors are from Oleg. As others have...

gilly - An Emanating Fist Dope Priest homage

I took it off the build documentation for the Muffin Fuzz with the exception of the transistors.

gilly - An Emanating Fist Dope Priest homage

It takes some effort and is pretty inefficient but it works. I end up with tweezers and the “weeding” tool from Cricut. After that I basically line them back up on the cutout sheet, put the transfer film over them and then just cut them out. They come off the transfer film pretty well.

gilly - An Emanating Fist Dope Priest homage

At the recommendation of @PedalBuilder I decided to build the Dope Priest. I had no idea how badly I needed this pedal! It's absolutely my new favorite Muff variant. I had purchased some KT3102E transistors from Oleg several months ago and have been waiting to use them on some Muffs. I purchased...

    What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Working on a new way to label the enclosures. This is just a test run on a junk enclosure. Mask off the sides, paint top base color (white for this one). Print removable vinyl stickers/labels on the Cricut. Paint top layer and then remove labels to reveal undercoat text.

    Trimmer pots in finished projects?

I am building pedals for some friends/acquaintances and they’re telling folks about them so I’m looking at selling some germanium fuzzes to some people for the first time. My tendency has been to use trimmers to establish bias then replace trims with resistors of that value. I’ve been of the...
