If you end up going with a commercial solution, there really isn't anything with a better value and feature set than the Mooer Preamp Live. I got one used for under $200.

I use mine ALL the time. The top mounted jacks one is helpful on all enclosure sizes, not just 125 B. Just slide it across to the edge for your in and out jacks on 1590DD/1590XX etc.

You may also want to consider throwing a switch in there and switching to LED clipping to give even more room to breathe (depending on your clipping diodes of choice).

Ended up working it out by ear and I’m much happier with it. The trimmer causing the weird spitty sound was the presence trimmer. Thanks for the advice!

This is great, thank you! I can tell just by tweaking the trimmers that they literally silence the circuit if turned too far in either direction. So it seems like the sweet spot shouldn't be TOO hard to find. But I also found that it would oscillate if the trimmers were set to certain values...

Just built the m800 and it sounds pretty good... a little dark. Biased the J201s (guaranteed authentic by GuitarPCB) to 4.5v other than the tone trimmer which I did by ear. What’s odd is that at low gain settings it gets a little spitty like a fuzz. Is this expected? Any ideas? There’s not any...

I have not built one that didn’t whistle with a blend yet. Without a blend, yes. But not with. Gonna try the Dunwich next.
