Hum/Hiss with Low Tide (Shallow Water) after using for months

I would definitely start by poking wires to see if something has gotten loose. I don't think I've had it happen after a month, but some cold solder joints have come loose after some time. Or rather, maybe they were already loose but were still making contact. However, it's usually intermittent...

    What’s really good?

Another singing update! Any time I've tried to do any kind of raspy rock "heat" type singing (not sure what to call it, we usually just call it distortion in Finnish) it's instantly hurt quite a bunch. Last time my singing teacher taught me the basics for how it should be done, and while I...

    Reducing noise in audio circuits

The Cioks can literally output 18V though, so no need to do anything fancy there.

    Reducing noise in audio circuits

There's a couple factors here. For one, low noise isn't really a huge focus in guitar pedals. Guitars are noisy (especially single coils), and a lot of pedals are fuzz which will for a lot of them be noisy no matter what (unless they're gated), so it's not usually worth it to chase low noise...

    Angine de Poitrine

To be honest, I don't think it's just that. I don't care for the band or that style of music too much, and I've seen them at least 10 times before online - obviously due to their act and look. That is the kind of thing that easily irks a lot of people and leads to the "gimmick" complaints. I...

    New Pedal Releases

Oh wow, never heard of those. Found a review for the DOD FX45 Stereo Reverb: and also Yeah, I can see why I never heard of them. Although it does sound like it was one influential artist away from being a "cult classic" that has it's fans and nobody else really cares. The Fairfield Circuitry...

    First build questions

I assume the in/out and power questions were about the jacks? The build docs https://docs.pedalpcb.com/project/AcidRain.pdf show which pad is which at least. I'm not sure about the power jack either, if you have a multimeter available you can check it. A standard guitar pedal power supply is 9...

    New Pedal Releases

A BBD reverb from Fairfield Circuitry. "3x 4096-stage BBDs in parallel" from IG comments. $489 USD apparently ($670 CAD I think?), no idea what it's in euros but going to be a lot. Understandably it's probably pretty complex, but that's quite a bit. Pretty cool pedal though, I have to admit...

3-D Printed Discs For Transistor Sockets?

I forgot to reply to this earlier, but I absolutely agree that if you want the best results, you should probably breadboard it first and figure out which parts you want to use, and then build it straight away with those. Sockets do sometimes help (or would have helped) avoid issues with...

    Electrical shock survivors

My father built a go-kart, more or less, when I was a child. I drove it to a wheat field once and somehow stuck my hand at the engine, getting a shock in the process that I think made my arm go numb for a bit. Apparently they re-did it, and it is possible - but you need a steady stream so might...

Probably not a good time to be shipping PCB's or components to russia, FWIW. Not sure about completed pedals.

    New Pedal Releases

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/shortdriveaudio/gateway-a-live-sidechain-pedal It's not really a new release since it's not out, but actually pretty cool idea. More of a gimmick thing, but could be cool for some live trickery, especially with synths.

What is in the signal path?

I mean this in the least offensive way possible, but you're basically saying "Ignoring that it doesn't really make any difference in the sound, should I use X or Y?" Just go with what feels best for you IMO, if you want carbon comp resistors because it makes the pedal feel cooler, use carbon...

    Moonshot Tremolo Gain

For future reference, a 10k pot is a 10k pot, you did not change the pot values. What you did change was the pot taper, which basically means "where are the values distributed through the pot's travel". For a clarification check the graph on this page...

    MC1458 makes the best distortion?

Arguably the MC1458 makes the best... clean? What's the opposite of distortion? It's one thing to compare op amps with slightly different THD values in a design meant to reproduce audio as accurately and cleanly as possible, to guitar pedals where the whole point is to add distortion. I doubt...

    What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

The Sasquatch II I built is also pretty quiet (due to having a germ transistor too), but to be fair, I also did the noise gate mod to the Fire Red Fuzz I modded and that also works (although obviously it changes the tone too since it messes with the transistor bias, it's a 100k trimmer in...

    What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Built up an EA tremolo for a friend on request, on veroboard. One cut wasn't complete which was pretty easy to find (depth pot wasn't working), and some transistor switching (yay sockets) to stop it from self-quenching at max rate (had to up the hFE on Q3, ended up with a BC550C) and it works...
