    Vacuum Tubes

I was buying tubes for an amp I was building a few years ago and saw the blurb that JJ KT77s were a suitable replacement for EL34s, so I tried them. I like 'em. It's rare that I push my amps to the point of break up, especially any with EL34s or KT77s. That's why I like pedals! I have particular...

    Jump Drive schematic?

Yeah the amp is dead clean - to get it to break up is louder than my neighbours would like! But all is solved now that the swchematic has been posted. :)

Update: Animal Pedals Major Overdrive (Sheepy Love Old Fashioned)

FWIW the transistors in the original were 2N5088 for Q1 and 2N5172 for Q2 & 3.

    Cyborg Drive (Ibanez CD5)

So clean! I like the colour and I particularly admire the simplicity of the graphics. Minimal, modern, sophisticated. Way back when the Ibanez Soundtanks were still made of diecast metal I bought a "60's Fuzz", which I know now is a Big Muff variant. I have always liked that pedal. I still...

C2C BassDude (Fender 5B6 Tweed Bassman Preamp)

He does some very cool pedals and I think you have done this one justice! I do worry that the knobs end up very close to footswitches, but I guess it wouldn't really be problem for me because I'm unlikely to be gigging with one anytime soon. I'd love to hear it! Of course being modelled after...

Modding the Vintage Distortion into Colorsound Tone Jumbo, possible?

Don't use the actual numbers on Kit Rae's diagrams! He seems to number everything backwards. Rather identify the parts by their place in the circuit. You should be able to trace from the IN jack to what we would normally call Q1 - Kit Rae calls it Q4. I see that Behringer call the transistors...

    PedalPCB Lemonade Overdrive

Pretty sure it's based on the Lemon Drop pedal.

What amplifiers do you like for testing how a pedal design/modification sounds?

It varies for me depending on what I have around. I lean towards tweed and Marshall sounds so that's what I use. Recently it's been a 50W plexi combo and a Brown Deluxe, both home made.

    Vacuum Tubes

I use JJ KT77s in Marshall style builds and really like 'em. Sound like a classy EL34 - big sounds!

    Whatchu sittin on? (chair thread)

I bought my HM Mirra chair new because where I live it would be unlikely to find one used. What I didn't know was that it came with something like a 15 year warranty. I have had it for long enough to not remember how long I've had it! One day something broke - it was quite serious, so I rang the...

    Changing up tubes

Are you referring to the Egnator Tweaker or all amps in general?

    DEMO SushiBoxFX Ambassador (Matchless HotBox)

Once I added a cap to ground at the output the brightness was tamed enough. BTW I just looked at the MM website to see how much a Hotbox transformer would cost now before discount - $171 for the version with multitap primary! That's a LOT more than it cost before! Mind you that was probably 20...

    DEMO SushiBoxFX Ambassador (Matchless HotBox)

I just remembered that I have a Mercury Magnetics Hotbox mains transformer from when I fried my Hotbox playing an outdoor gig. The organisers told me it was mains power but my guitar sounded brighter and brighter through the gig and by the time our set finished the Hotbox smelled really bad...

This week on the Breadboard: The Emerald Green Overdrive

You're not alone. I can't work out bread boards - yet. I thought I was doing pretty well, what with designing my own Vero layouts and being able to draw rudimentary schematics. But so far breadboards have defeated me! I tried over 1/2 a dozen 2N1308s in this circuit, of varying HFE and leakage...

    Sheepylove Jan Ray

You are of course correct. Context is everything.

    Sheepylove Jan Ray

I agree with both @Guardians of the analog and @szukalski. The stock Timmy is bland, as are so many very popular pedals. At least it is to me. It's a perfectly good OD and would be great for stacking (which hadn't occurred to me because I rarely stack pedals). But I like more colour and...

Modding the Vintage Distortion into Colorsound Tone Jumbo, possible?

It's generally pretty self-explanatory. D3, D4 and C6? just leave them off. There is no connection to complete the circuit required, so no jumpers or anything are needed. At the end leave out R3, R4, R6, R7, Q1 and C2. the only jumper you'll need is to connect C3 to Volume 3. C3 needs to connect...

This Week on the Breadboard: The Electro-Harmonix Big Muff 2

Oh yeah... Forgot about them! Still, I don't play them. Loved building them, don't play them. The only one I do play from time to time is the Alter Destiny. @MichaelW - I tried the Anvil but found it kinda flat or something - couldn't connect with it. Maybe I built it wrong?
