I always thought the Keeley was extremely dark as well but I did like the modulation.

I’m working on a pcb and one of the holes for the 1N5817 is physically smaller in size than the others and the damn leg just will not fit in the hole. Is there a substitute part I could use that maybe has thinner legs? What would happen if I didn’t use it? Would the pedal still work?

Careful all pin headers are not the same. I bought some angled male ones off Amazon to solder to my smd j201s and the pins wouldn’t fit into the female sockets I’d already soldered onto the board.
