    Soft touch nut drivers?

I've been 3D printing my sockets for years. Injection molded sockets last longer, but they still don't last forever and the cost of replacement adds up when you're using them a lot. It's especially annoying because there are some values that get used more than others. A "full set" of sockets for...

    C2C Build Document Mistakes Repository

It was brought to my attention that the Wrecking Ball parts list has a mistake as well, it only calls for one 2x5 right-angle header instead of three. That has now been fixed.

Stability, Gain, Impedance and Trace to Trace Coupling

Honestly not really. High voltage arcing is a thing, but even conservative spacing for high voltages only requires 30mil spacing. I also mitigate that by avoiding power traces, I use 4-layer board so the HV is all on an internal layer, which has a very favorable dielectric breakdown so I don't...

Stability, Gain, Impedance and Trace to Trace Coupling

I don't do a lot of high-gain work so it's not as critical, but I have found that even in medium-gain work it is still something you need to keep in mind. I read some guidelines years ago that someone on DIYSB (I think it may have been RG Keen?) wrote regarding the ratio of trace spacing and...

Boutique Pedal Manufacturers Are Feeling the Tariff Pinch

Unfortunately not always an option 🫤 Looking through my recent orders I think this is my worst one to date.

A Regulated Isolated 9vdc Power Supply Layout

Yup, exactly what @jwin615 said. There's more to a capacitor than just capacitance, and ESR and reactance need to be taken into account when the devices on the receiving end are sensitive. Some voltage regulators will give specific direction with regards to the material of the capacitors used...

A Regulated Isolated 9vdc Power Supply Layout

Yup the design with that decade ladder was for ultra-sensitive digital hardware that went in an airplane, so it was running off 28V aircraft power which can be a bit unpredictable for noise. In a pedal power supply it would be absolute overkill and you likely wouldn't hear much of a difference...

A Regulated Isolated 9vdc Power Supply Layout

I would strongly recommend (and I'm a little surprised the AI tool didn't mention it) that you add small-ish (100nF) decoupling capacitors in parallel with your 10uF caps on the inputs to each of your supplies. It's one of those "engineering best practice" things we do to further filter...

    C2C troubleshooting ?

Good, that's what I like to hear. Always respect the electrons and understand that they can kill you, and as long as you remember that, you'll be fine. We're orca trainers here; when we work together with the terrifying deadly creature, we can do really cool things. But we have to respect the...

Beetronics Royal Jelly saved from the depths

That's how Orange does it on their amps, they use knurled shafts with set screw knobs.

A Regulated Isolated 9vdc Power Supply Layout

I missed that one when I was looking through, good catch. "Suitable when the requirement for a tight output regulation is not as strict." So when whatever AI tool helped design this said it would rival higher end power supplies, it was just typical baseless AI flattery. Will the supply work...

A Regulated Isolated 9vdc Power Supply Layout

I can answer those for you: 1 - no it is not. The polarity protection diode is in fact blocking the correct polarity voltage from powering the circuit. 2 - top part is input filtering before each regulator, bottom part is output filtering after each regulator 3 - 2W of power at 9V = 222mA per...

    JAM Tiny Amp Destroyer

It's possible, but I wouldn't expect that alone to make a huge difference in tone. Ambassador was designed before I had a real Hotbox and was put together based on schematics I found floating around the internet. We're getting pretty far off topic here 🤷‍♂️

    JAM Tiny Amp Destroyer

Basically yes, I keep one set for mid-low gain and the other set for high gain. I was working on a two-channel Soldano preamp for a while, but where I'm using a programmable loop switcher anyway it makes more sense to just use two separate pedals.

Boutique Pedal Manufacturers Are Feeling the Tariff Pinch

The $25 fee is only for standard assembly, not for economy. Also I've never felt like ENIG was important enough to pay the extra cost for, but that could just be me being cheap. I have a PCBA file in my cart right now that's $21.24 for qty 25 because it's a moderately small, 2-layer green PCB...

Solaris Delay - everything is better with tubes or something

Artwork files are up Whoops, you're absolutely correct, thank you for letting me know. There are no C taper pots in this build, that should be B100k. I'll get in and fix the Tayda link. Stompboxparts makes it easy because it's one link with a dropdown menu.

I scored a deal on a Hotbox a year or so ago, it was one I had lusted after for a while. It didn't make it onto my board, but I haven't flipped it either.
