This Week on the Breadboard: The EHX Ripped Speaker

That’s true, and I think AionFX has the best footprint in that format for SMD/TH. The problem is that when you solder SMD on there, it fills the TH pad which makes it harder to drop a pin in there for testing.

Great stuff! @HamishR does great circuits!

This Week on the Breadboard: The EHX Ripped Speaker

It's one transistor footprint to rule them all (Lord of the Footprints). The worst case is a bit of twister with some weird pin-outs on TH. Before, I'd have to have different footprints for EBC, CBE, DGS, DSG.. and even those would cause confusion at times. Now, it's just one with different...

This Week on the Breadboard: The EHX Ripped Speaker

The layout demanded tone and rip to be in those places else it would be messy.. As for the LED, mine's always in the same place :D You can have the LED in any colour you want, but the location is always 0 mm / 12.7 mm!

Aion Fx Theseus issues - King of tone

The Sheepylove Kaiser (Chuck's Emperor of Tone) has the dist blend on a pot, and there is a difference but you have to question whether it's worth the cost of a pot :D Another thing to try is a boost in front. Get a bit more signal, which should distort a bit more.

Aion Fx Theseus issues - King of tone

Connect the switch to GND instead of the diodes. The signal should drop out when you flick the switch. It would show the switch working. I always found the dist to be mildly different at best.

I can't see anything wrong from the pics you've provided..

    LLMs and KiCad

Personally, the layout is the more enjoyable part of the process and where I have some pseudo science thoughts on how it goes. I have though of automating it but where’s the relaxation then..? Tracing pedals would be another story though

Measuring IDSS for a J201 JFET on a daughterboard

I had challenges at first but it’s really simple. First, generously tin the pads. Then use tweezers to hold the SMD part in place. Then just hold the iron onto the SMD leg and press it down into the tinned pad. Bosh. You can add more solder afterwards if you’re paranoid but I’ve done...

    Sheepylove Hebridean J201 (IDSS)?

Evidence of the recent troubleshooting/not-worth-it pile. It's probably 50/50 in there..

    Sheepylove Hebridean J201 (IDSS)?

What was the other one? If you have a troubleshooting thread, point me there. In general, I won’t release a noisy pedal (or even one I feel is meh) because it’s a poor experience, so I’d be interested in seeing what you’re finding.

    Sheepylove Hebridean J201 (IDSS)?

Happy to troubleshoot if you want to upload some pics. I don’t have any noise issues so I’d be interested if others are experiencing this.

    Bring out yer Diptrace

That's pretty hot @jubal81 . Maybe the hottest thing this year. I love the lack of relay. I hadn't seen the TMUX4053. I've been looking at replacing the MCU in my IO boards with a debouncing IC (MAX6816), replacing the relay as well would be awesome for a minimal footprint!

I guess you'll be needing one in 125B format as well.

    Sheepylove Hebridean J201 (IDSS)?

You got it right. If you turn over the board, you should have the resdef. That's Q3 and Q4. The build doc says that the Idss in Q4 should be greater than that of Q3. The arrow on the board is just showing you where Q3 is. Test your MMBFJ201/J201 for Idss and make sure Q4 has higher value than...

Is it just me or is everyone excited at the free tuner?

It’s crap for the doc but really good for building the script to create the doc!
