    SOLVED Tactical Fuzz No Audio

    Found a TL019-R in Spain. ;)

    SOLVED Tactical Fuzz No Audio

Can I also use a TM019-R instead of the TL019-R?

    Sonic Distortion derivates

I own an original Maxon SD-9 and I’m interested to experiment with a number of PCBs which are similar. This thread is to share insights and mod experiences. I’m going to build an AION Meteor (Mods from the SD9M (mids) and a clipping switch) and the PPCB Samurai (based on Way Huge Geisha Drive)...

DEMO Shut up and play yer Baritone! (and some pedals)

Ariel Posen uses 17, 20, 30w, 40w, 52w and 64w for B standard. Joey Landreth uses something close to that. That will give you something close to 010 E standard tension.

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

It works on 12v so I'm done investigating. Already took too much time.

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

Replaced all 25v+ rated elco caps with 35v and 50v and reflowed the film caps. The noise problem is still there on 9v but now I can safely use it on 12v and will keep it like that.

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

The first 220uf is before the charge pump so can be 16v or 25v

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

I have 50v 10uf but not higher voltage 220uf in my stock. Can I use 330uf or 120uf? The Aion Ares uses 100uf before the charge pump and no 220uf at the back. Only 2x 1n5827 with 2x 10uf

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

I also tried changing the charge pump from 1044 to 7660s and it didn’t change the behavior. I will order some higher than 25v elco caps to see if that changes something. It seems not related to the transistor as I swapped these with no change to the behavior. Another thing I was thinking is...

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

Never seen this before with any builds.

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

It doesn’t, it’s not related to grounding. With my hand I meant covering it over the open back (without cover). When the cover is on it the hand has no influence. It seems that any material that reflects or bounces back is picked up? But thanks for thinking with me.

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

It's even stranger that this noise isn't occuring when the pedal is powered with 12v. I can place the lid at the switch side 1/3 and at the top 1/3 and no noise occurs. Only over the elco caps and 2n5457 area does it increase the noise. And even my hand position over it without closing the area...

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

BTW, running the 25v elco caps on 27.3v with a 12v PS eventually will destroy them right? They seem to be doing fine. :)

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

I received new ICL7660SCPAZ and 2n5457 today. The 2n5457 were all marked with CEN in front (Central?) and had different gain levels. I tried all combinations but none resolved the issue with the noise. On 12v it works perfect on 9v it doesn't. I think replacing 4 of the 5 elco caps to higher...

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

Yes, I used the zener diode. I swapped the 2n5457 with the one I had. Receiving some others today hopefully. Aion uses other transistors. I could try an alternative to the 2n5457 as well. Any other transistors I can try?

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

It's still frustrating that there's no explanation why this occurs? It can't be a build error if it works at 12v. EDIT: you can imagine that I'm close to just buying a EP-PRE or Secret preamp.

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

Ok, I took the 9v battery out of my multimeter and tried it. It doesn't make any difference to a 9v PS. I also increased the bias voltage to above 17v on 9v which didn't make a difference either. So this isn't related to power I guess? It's concentrated aournd the elco caps and the transistor...

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

I haven't tried with a 9v battery yet. I normally use an external battery to 9v cable but all my 9v batteries are dead so I have to order some. Which type of batteries do you use for pedals? In general it's good to know if the pedal works better with a 9v battery but in practice this is still...

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

The voltage I measure using 12v is 27.3v and at the 2n5457 it's 17.0v. The strange thing is that using 9v the voltage at the 2n5457 is 16.8v. So that's very close already and strange that the pedal behaves so different. So is the 27.3v or the 17v passed through to the elco caps? I read this...
