New Production Germanium Transistors - What's The Scoop?

I'm wondering the same as Ginsly, but for GE diodes. I see 1N34A for sale on eBay from China. Don't care if they're authentic or anything, just wondering what they are or if they'd work. It's hard to stomach $2 apiece at SBP.

    VFE Woodchipper

Wow, that's a lot of wires! Love the Fargo callout. Feels like it would be hard *not* to mention Fargo.

    Parasit U-235: "Sage Grouse Suboctave"

This is a a report on the U-235 from Parasit. I tacked this on to my Parasit order because it seemed like a really clean-sounding suboctave based on demos on the site. I don't think I've seen anyone else talking about this pedal, which is a shame. Inspiration The inspiration for the pedal is...

    Suboctave Pedals

I think Parasit is the best I've seen for this type of thing TBH. U-235 is pretty good if all you want is suboctave. PPCB Dirt Dauber is also fun but I found tracking to be worse.

    The hella rats chronicles

I just laid out and built a PCB for the stock rat. Hadn't played a rat in a while and was impressed by the tone. Was thinking of trying to combine multiple different rat pedals (I wanted a true replacement for my Joyo Splinter, which has a few additional switches for fat/normal). Multi-RAT looks...

Designing myself a breadboard prototyping rig

I'd love to see what you've worked up... Or get a PCB. I want to get more into breadboarding but I've been put off mostly by the pain of hooking up pots to the breadboard. But I haven't gotten around to laying out a PCB myself. I'm kinda picturing this looking like a mega-Auditorium. So it...

Aion FX Lab Series L5 Preamp

I feel you on the wiring. I think Aion's wiring guidance also lends itself to longer, messier wires.

Stuff you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

How should I read symbols on a schematic, where no pin is specified, the symbol appears symmetrical, but directionality is important for pins? In particular, I'm wondering about pots and JFETs. Here's some example pots to show what I mean: PPCB schematics, and other more recent ones I've...

    Chop Shop: "Scrub Jay Overdrive"

What do you use for the heating? And what size tubing? I should use heat shrink tube, would be a lot neater. But I've avoided because I didn't want to spend much on a tool for heating.

    Chop Shop: "Scrub Jay Overdrive"

The birds are basically all original artwork, but it might depend on your definition of original. Occasionally I use Gemini to see if I can get a good pose, otherwise I'll look for a photograph with the pose I want. Then I do a sort of tracing on top of those to reduce it to a narrow range of...

    Chop Shop: "Scrub Jay Overdrive"

This is a a report on the Chop Shop OD, based on the Fairfield Barbershop. This pedal showed up on some pots in the original Top Five thread and is pretty consistently recommended on this forum, so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Inspiration I was originally going to give this...

    Sweet Honey: "Honeycreeper Overdrive" (w/Gerber)

Thanks! Wingspan is one of my favorite games as well... I've got all the expansions.

    Sweet Honey: "Honeycreeper Overdrive" (w/Gerber)

This is a report for a version of the Mad Professor Sweet Honey, based on my own PCB design. I had a Joyo version of this pedal before. This pedal was on my radar because it was widely beloved on Reddit, and the Joyo version was recommended as a good cheap beginner pedal when I first started...

    Top Five '24

The first thread just predated when I started building pedals. It was a great way to sift through all the PPCB boards and bulk out my shopping cart. Here's my top 5, in no particular order: 1. PPCB Dung Beetle (Basic Audio Scarab Deluxe/fuzz) - Gotta have at least one fuzz pedal on the list. I...

Szukalski Blue Sheep: "Great Blues Driver"

I haven't listened side-by-side, but Dylan159 noticed the same thing as Chuck: "Now, the diodes. I was a bit surprised to find that these aren't doing much at all. In hindsight, it makes sense because they're after all the attenuation from the tone stack, which is also an equalization curve, so...

Szukalski Blue Sheep: "Great Blues Driver"

This is a report for @szukalski's Blue Sheep from his Dylan159 layouts, based on Dylan159's Blue Pilot. Now it's the "Great Blues Driver." That's a lot of names for one pedal! This was in the very first batch of PCBs I had made by JLCPCB. I like the blues driver/blues breaker tone. It was a...

    (Not Another) Tayda Shipping Thread

You can track the shipping. In my experience it's always sent from Thailand and always takes 2-3 days. Usually Thailand to Japan to LA to me on the West Coast. Once it went the other way and through Germany. Similar path for Fedex and DHL. It's remarkably fast and cheap, even if you don't get...

    Glory Hole: "Mourning Glory Overdrive"

This is a report for the PPCB Glory Hole, based on the JHS Morning Glory. I saw this recommended a bunch of times - I think primarily on Reddit - and figured I'd give it a shot. It's an easy build and one of my most-used pedals. Inspiration The inspiration here was pretty obvious. Since the...
