Go for it! The larger metal box probably means you could incorporate an actual footswitch too, rather than having to use a remote on/off. I think they said part of the reason why they opted for a remote was because of space, not just that it's 3d printed.

BYOC kits was how I got started a couple years ago too! My first soldering iron and multimeter was also from his beginner tool set, which was so helpful getting started. This reminds me I bought an extra 5 Knob Compressor kit that I told my mate I’d make him a year ago haha
