Who has built a FET City Drive?

R16 is between a pair of hard clipping LEDs and a couple of gain stages. I could try just removing it altogether for a start because there are already clipping diodes in the feedback loop of the IC... So removing R16 would remove the hard clipping diodes. I would imagine that making R16 bigger...

Is there a 'better' MOAB-style pedal out these days?

I made Chuck laugh when I mentioned I was playing the Jump Drive, AKA LPD 68, through my Plexi clone which is based on a '68 Marshall. It sounds great, so why wouldn't I?? As you say, whther I had the pedal on or not it sure sounded like a '68 Plexi.. :)

Is there a 'better' MOAB-style pedal out these days?

Well there are plenty of "Marshall" pedals which sound little like a Marshall! And of course that's to be expected. The designer doesn't know what amp it's to be played through. I play my Brownout OD through a plexi style amp and it doesn't really sound like I turned the amp up louder. Doesn't...

Is there a 'better' MOAB-style pedal out these days?

Oh the Brownout is a killer pedal! Not sure how Marshall it sounds but who cares? It sounds and plays so well.

    Simulcast

Te friend who described it as a treble boost also uses it as a fuzz in his band which plays a lot of Beatles songs.

    Simulcast

I didn't "get" the Broadcast until a friend who uses one described it as a complicated treble booster. And used like that I love it! I have also found that I can't hear any difference in my use if a use the transformer or not, so I haven't bothered with a transformer in subsequent builds. I...

Is there a 'better' MOAB-style pedal out these days?

I recently built a Golden Falk and while it is an excellent OD it sounds more like a hot-rodded Marshall than a regular plexi to me. One of the best plexi sounding ODs I have heard I only built this week! It's available here as the Jump Drive, based on the LPD 68. I have built a few '68 style...

Jump Drive (LPD Sixty8) - Revisited

I just built one of these pedals. I used a TL072 and instead of Ge diodes I used a 1N4001 paired with a BAT41. I am floored by this pedal. It sounds so much like my Marshall it's crazy. And I did indeed initially play it through my Marshall ('68 50W Plexi style!). After Chuck humiliated me for...

Who has built a FET City Drive?

I like the sound. I wonder if the noise is a result of a bad transistor? I think you might like it, @owlexifry.

Who has built a FET City Drive?

This is sad. It seems this pedal is unloved and has been left to wither and die from inattention and lack of love, a victim of a heartless society which takes overdrive for granted.

Who has built a FET City Drive?

I just built a FET City Drive today - it sounds great! But I want to hear other folks experience of this pedal - I can't find much. Mine is quite noisy unless gain is low - Has anyone else experienced this or am I just shit at building PCBs? It also doesn't do low gain - would using 2N7000...

I've never seen that but I assume it might make the metal case a Faraday cage?

    Jump Drive schematic?

I have finally got around to building the Jump Drive PCB I have had sitting on my desk for ages, and I am so glad I did! It's excellent! I have played and repaired a few old small box '68 50W Plexis and they are one of my favourite amps. The amp I use daily is based on that circuit, built into a...

    Clusterfuzz / Figbuster

Yup - don't even open the zip file! Just upload it to JLCPCB. After reading this thread I finally got around to building one with Szukalski's excellent PCB. And I'm glad I did - it's a lot better than I was expecting from a pedal I knew very little about. It can be a fuzz, it can be a fuzzy...

    Treble booster options

https://www.pedalpcb.com/product/chickenhead/ My fave Treble Booster! It's essentially a Rangemaster with a pot to add low end. Analogman stuff is ok but stupid expensive when you can easily build your own.

    Awful Waffle

The tone stack in Bad Cat amps is usually identical to the Vox AC30 Bass/Treble tone stack. The big differences are that Bad Cat and Matchless amps have way more filtering and bigger transformers than Vox. (And Matchless way over-bias the power tubes which makes them sound brittle)

    Awful Waffle

I love Bad Cat amps, but have found them to be a little tricky to use with drive pedals. They have a lot of high end content - more than a Vox IMO - and that can make ODs sound a bit shrill. There's something about the EQ that can make ODs sound a bit brittle and unpleasant. The Vox EQ which Bad...

    Awful Waffle

The way clipping is achieved is a fascinating topic. I almost always really dislike LED clipping. I like the way JFETs clip but they can sometimes sound almost too perfect. One JFET OD I built broke up so smoothly that it barely had any sizzle like an actual tube amp has. Sounded fantastic, but...

Baby Blue OD with bass pot

In what sense? To be honest I've built a few of these just chucking in whatever 2N5952s I've had and they've all worked beautifully. I think Chuck has had less than stellar results with transistors which didn't bias as well. And often with these BJF designs 2N5457s work just as well as long as...
