Following up on this. I replaced the JFET and it biases easily now. Doesn't sound much different. I think my room is just really electrically noisy and its a high gain pedal.

The Aion has a 15k in series with each 50k trimmer, so the range of adjustment is more limited.

I pulled the transistor, will swap it out. Need to order some more though. Thanks.

The optocoupler is also providing variable resistance in that loop so you could play with that? But seems like a high resistance pot is a good place to start.
