That's fascinating. Do these JFETs have a use in the full on/full off mode of operation or are they primarily meant to be linear devices as used in these analog circuits? I guess what I'm asking is whether the manufacturer is making these for other purposes and the audio use case piggybacks on that?

Another newbie question. Why is there such variation in performance of individual JFETs of the same part number? Is it that the production processes for these parts is older? We're in an era of billions of transistors on a chip, of very close tolerances...

Hi. Newbie here. This is a very educational thread! Two questions: Is there a part 2? I didn't find it, but maybe I missed it somewhere? Second question: how are you measuring Vp, Idss, etc? Is there a specific transistor tester you're using, or are you doing this in-circuit?
