    CA3260 alternative?

I would like to build a few Oxides. I have a KEP Mostortion clone on my main board, but I’d like to have a few more. Of course, CA3260’s are pretty hard to come by. I’ve read that one can substitute most other common opamps, but I’m wondering what would come closest to the original. I was...

    Boss GE-7 Changing the frequencies

See, now it gets more confusing to me. Because the GE-7 values are labeled 6.4K, but actually yield a cutoff frequency around 4K. The GE-7B values (which are different values than the GE-7) are labeled 4K, and yield a slightly different cutoff frequency which is also right around 4K. I’m still...

    Boss GE-7 Changing the frequencies

Ok, the values for the highest band on the MXR 6-band work out to just south of 2K, but they labeled it 3.2K. And 2K is pretty close to 70% of 3.2K. Do with that info what you will.

    Boss GE-7 Changing the frequencies

I just checked against the highest band on the MXR 10-band, which is labeled 16k. It uses the exact same type of filter but with different values. And the values they used come out to a cutoff frequency of 15.3K. A lot closer to the labeled 16K than the 4.13K and 6.4K of the Boss. So I kinda...

    Boss GE-7 Changing the frequencies

Based on @vladimirsky ‘s reply above, replacing C1 with 68n seems like it would probably be pretty close. Does that seem correct?

    Boss GE-7 Changing the frequencies

That’s what I got as well. So where’s the 6.4K come from?

Please help me understand this volume pedal

Thanks so much for that, Robert! So I guess my next questions are: The pot value is more a function of loading, right? We usually see 250K or 500K in passive volume pedals, but 10-25K in active ones. I’m guessing these values work better respectively depending on whether they follow a buffer...

Please help me understand this volume pedal

Not sure if this belongs in this subforum, apologies if I’m in the wrong place. I’m trying to better understand my volume pedal. It’s a Goodrich L10K active pedal. Unfortunately, I don’t have a full trace as I didn’t have time to remove the whole board to see the underside. But just looking at...

    Boss GE-7 Changing the frequencies

I’m pretty sure R10 isn’t involved, I think it is the CLR for the indicator LED. When a filter is in this configuration of wiper to cap to resistor, what sort of filter is it, and how is the frequency determined?

    Samsonite Pedalboard W.I.P.

That I/O box is much cleaner inside than mine, lol. I accidentally ordered PCB-mount jacks. Soldering stranded wire to those little pins sucked.

First Combo build....and it works! Mach 1/Southern Belle

My trick has been to stack it with an overdrive that most people complain has TOO MUCH bottom end: the Nobels ODR-1. The last few guitar gigs I’ve played (now, to be fair, they’ve been country gigs) I’ve mostly lived on the back pickup (split to single coil) of a Squier ‘51, Boss CS-3 always on...

    Overdrive into SS Amp

The Benson was another one I considered. Also the ROG Peppermill. I know of at least one steel player that used a Sansamp Blonde after his dirt pedals for a long while, but I don’t know of a DIY implementation for that one yet.

    Overdrive into SS Amp

No horn. Current amp has a single 12”, the amp I would like to upgrade to has a single 15” (preferred by most steel players). I might try playing with EQ a little more, but unfortunately I generally keep my EQ pedal set up as a dobro simulator, so I’d rather not have to monkey with the settings...

Duh, don’t know why I didn’t think of the Superbolt. Great idea, thanks!

    Overdrive into SS Amp

Alright guys, I need some help figuring out what I can build that might solve a problem for me. I currently have a Lightspeed copy, an ODR-1 with a bass control, a Mostortion copy, and a modded Rat on my board. They work great with my guitars into a Blues Jr. But I also play pedal steel, and I...

    Samsonite Pedalboard W.I.P.

I used this board for guitar in one band, and pedal steel in another. When I’m playing steel, my feet are too busy playing the instrument, so I put the legs on it and swat pedals on and off with my right hand.

    Samsonite Pedalboard W.I.P.

Just a suggestion. Not sure how well you can see it in this pic, but here’s what we did for my old board. Load the board with pedals, and wrap it in plastic and zip tie/tape closed making sure nothing can leak in. Spray expansion foam all around it, then trim with a knife after the foam sets...

    HELP! PCB Layout Guidance

Great response, Chuck! Of course, I know better than to deal in absolutes, and to take Redditors’ advice/dogma with a grain of salt. But yours is a sound explanation that makes sense to me and helps me to better understand the “why” in addition to the “what”. This is the kind of information I’m...

    HELP! PCB Layout Guidance

I’ve been wondering a lot about this one, because I did it on a couple of layouts that I posted to Reddit for critique, and was told that it’s a bad idea. However, I’ve noticed that PedalPCB boards seem to do it fairly regularly, so I’m not really sure what to believe. When is this ok, and when...

    XTS Winford Drive

One for the Nashville crowd. Would be right at home next to the Nobleman and Oxide overdrives.
