Sunflower Fuzz - Low, Gated Output, bias trim not working

Tested on my cheapo meter - even desoldered Q2 and put it back on the tester to make sure i had it right, because the output sounded like I'd reversed them. Didn't get a chance to reflow last night, but I'll hit that one today and see if it changes anything.

Sunflower Fuzz - Low, Gated Output, bias trim not working

Under my magnifier it looks to me like brown black black brown brown, yes.

Sanity checks are necessary and appreciated, I have audio at all 3 legs of q2.

Sunflower Fuzz - Low, Gated Output, bias trim not working

Right, but the numbers here are negative, so wouldn't the higher number range there actually be less voltage? I attached a probe to q2c - turning the sundial ccw/left sent the reading to -8.3, turning it cw/right all the way was -7.2v.

Sunflower Fuzz - Low, Gated Output, bias trim not working

Yep, with sundial fully cw the bias range at q2c goes from 7.42 to 5.94

Sunflower Fuzz - Low, Gated Output, bias trim not working

Swapped out the pot for a b1k, since I had one in the pile. Doesn't seem to have solved the issue, but it brought the q2c voltage down by about 1v (bias trim now adjusts it from about 7.2v up to 8.3v.

Sunflower Fuzz - Low, Gated Output, bias trim not working

Yep, I just replaced it with the correct value. Doesn't seem to have solved the issue, but it brought the q2c voltage down by about 1v (bias trim now adjusts it from about 7.2v up to 8.3v.

You mean replace the b5k with a b1k? Just making sure before i go digging for one, I may have that around somewhere. I do get a ground connection on the + leg of c2. Edit: I used a b5k when the fuzz pot should be a b1k. This is the kind of thing I do, so unsurprising to me but needed it called...

Sunflower Fuzz - Low, Gated Output, bias trim not working

Pin 1 is grounded, pin 2 i have continuity with c2, pin 3 i get continuity at both R1 and q1e

with sundial and bias fully CW, resistance is 9.06k ohms. Fully CCW it's 1.416k ohms.

Using the pinout in the bottom left of this image (https://i.pinimg.com/736x/d4/1e/99/d41e99c7407ae218cfbe7ef4b2d57f5c.jpg), i get the sweep from ~0 to 4.7k between pins 1-3 and 2-3, and 0 ohms from 1-2.

    With all the pots at max, transistor voltages are Q1 E 0.00, B -0.072, C -0.255 Q2 E -0.273, B -0.247, C -9.02

I'll check those transistor voltages tonight after work and post them up here, meant to include them in my original post. q2 collector is right around 9v.

I confirmed that all cap values and orientations are correct

Sunflower Fuzz - Low, Gated Output, bias trim not working

I'll fiddle with the sundial pot again, I was trying to bias with that set at noon - but the bias trimmer doesn't really change much. I do have an audio probe, but it seems like there's a substantial volume drop after every component and the "loops" in the circuit always throw me a bit when...

Sunflower Fuzz - Low, Gated Output, bias trim not working

I wasn't sure what to call them here, since vref is usually half the supply. I meant the points on the schematic in the build doc that say voltage should be 9v or -9v are measuring approximately those values. q2 collector voltage is right around 9v, trimpot increases and decreases it by a max...

Sunflower Fuzz - Low, Gated Output, bias trim not working

Such a simple build, I even got my Ge transistors as a selected pair (from Barry at guitarpcb). They are PNP, the pinout is correct, charge pump is from Tayda, everything looks right to me, the vrefs are correct. However, the bias trimpot does nothing (changes q2's range by about -/+ 0.2v), the...

    Missing Build Docs / Schematics

Anyone got a set of Tayda drill coordinates for the flush mount i/o module, without face plate? I didn't realize I ordered a new version that requires the rectangular cutout. I should read things sometimes.

For the Scabbard, I have d9e diodes on hand. Those are going to be just fine, right, or do I really need to seek out the d9b for this.
