    Deep Blue Delay Simulation (FV-1)

With or without the noise and distortion of original BBD chips :)? Just for fun I am going to give this a try using the CT3680 and see what other interesting things that might make possible...

    Deep Blue Delay Simulation (FV-1)

This is really cool, and similar to what we are doing with our CT3680 delay module -- analog effects built around a digital delay core.

Looking for some MN3101 clone beta testers (CT3101)

In an old BBD device like that it is possible the MN3009 is bad, they do tend to deteriorate over time. Hard to know without debugging the circuit. If you are going to pull chips out anyway, you should probably replace both the MN3101 (with CT3101) and the MN3009. We stock both of those...

Digital BBD concept looking for comments and beta testers

We try to always be conservative when estimating future pricing, just too many variables to have high confidence. Like when the builder's pricing system told us our boards weighed over 50 lbs and would cost >$400 to ship. Yup. They missed like 2 decimal places when entering a component weight...

Digital BBD concept looking for comments and beta testers

And the good news... from the beta testing we are confident in the hardware design, so the first run of CT3680 modules is now in production! We have more firmware ideas to implement, but the hardware is well settled. That also gives us the ability to answer the question many have asked... what...

Digital BBD concept looking for comments and beta testers

In the mail today... lots and lots of through-hole adapters, and rev 2 of the development board. Oh yeah, and a solder mask for the 40-pin SMT connector to see if we can speed up populating the DIL adapters and dev boards. That is a HUGE sheet of stainless for a TINY little mask area!

Nice! I want a pair of those!

From this mess... To this... CT3680 development/breakout board. Sorry beta testers, this does not fit the prototype modules...!

I think it would be straight forward to take the program #4 Haas effect and make it variable to allow panning of the stereo field. Using CV input 3, when that CV is at the center value (1.65v) outputs 2 and 3 (L and R) would be identical (both delayed by the amount defined by CV 2). Between...

Bench testing the next hardware revision. So far so good (no smoke is always a plus 🔥)

Program 4 has a Hass effect stereo output, but the effect is not adjustable (fixed at -15ms offset of the right channel). It would be easy enough to use CV_DELAY_3 input to control the Haas delay from (say) -20ms to +20ms. Sweep that through the range for a left/right pan. That would mean you...

Digital BBD concept looking for comments and beta testers

Hi all, some development updates... We have implemented an aliasing feature in the firmware which allows for more "real world" BBD behavior if desired. This feature is enabled with an input pin (disabled by default), and has a 'manual' (CV control) and 'automatic' modes. Currently only 'manual'...

Yeah, of course. So it is not so much an MN3011 emulation, as emulation of an entire reverb effect that uses an MN3011.

We will get 2 updated modules to you in the mail and send a return label for the ones you have. > very close mimic of the MN3011 How are you getting 6 delay taps from the FV-1, are you using more than one of them?

Digital BBD concept looking for comments and beta testers

I think this is an OK place to share experiences, ask questions, etc. We don't have any private chat room or forum setup anywhere, so as long as the admins here don't mind... For MN3011 emulation, FYI, we have implemented a dedicated program that fixes the tap delay interval ratios to match the...

First pass at layout for the next rev of the hardware is about done. Target was 30% reduction in PCB board area, we achieved a bit over 50% reduction. The new hardware will be about 38mm x 29mm including a 40 pin 0.8mm pitch edge connector.

Low Tide LPG and BBD not working

If you find the MN3207 is faulty, we will replace it with a V3207 at no charge. We stopped stocking most NOS vintage BBD chips because fallout rates were too high and unpredictable.

Digital BBD concept looking for comments and beta testers

Been quiet with the beta group getting their circuit design mojo worked up :-) So we started the design of the next hardware iteration (first production model). A few key changes we are contemplating... Support only +5V supply using onboard 3.3V regulator. External 3.3V supply makes noise...

Digital BBD concept looking for comments and beta testers

Prototypes were shipped to beta testers today 🥳🥳 A copy of the preliminary datasheet was sent by email, and attached here for anyone else that might be interested. Let the games begin! :) [Jan 20] Updated PDF with details of linking multiple modules, and MN3011 emulation firmware. Note the...

Digital BBD concept looking for comments and beta testers

The module uses a fixed (48kHz) sample rate regardless of delay time. So there is no 'natural' aliasing at longer delay times (lower clock speeds for traditional BBDs). For cases when that aliasing is desired we are looking at simulating it (as an option), but the beta modules will not have...
