3-band EQ (Acoustic guiar) Hot-wired into a stomp box?

Can it be done? This might very well be THE most burnt out pedal project idea ever envisioned :p

Sheer 'who would ever attempt something this dumb'

I could actually be that guy!!

Although they say;

"If it works, is it really a dumb idea?"

This is why I have to ask first, if you have any thoughts on a project of this magnitude?

I don't know. Diving into shallow water head first.

Last year the pawn shop guy threw in one of these cheap little 9V acoustic guitar 3-band EQ's that had been collecting dust since the 90's (Pickup not included) To sweeten an exchange of old busted Junk-for old busted Junk.

My vision was to mod it into a simple enclosure to plug into some Lo-fi Cigar box amps that don't have onboard EQ's or tone controls (Vintage portable transistor Radios I've modded into guitar amps) maybe it's just isn't supposed to work that way, which is why I don't see anyone else doing it, so far I can't find any good examples to follow.

It doesn't even need to have a bypass switch, honestly plug and play works for what I'm hacking around using it for. It's mainly for LO-FI applications here.

The idea came to me, trying to research Frank Zappa guitar Modifications. (Sorry for name dropping Zappa, a true genius has no business being mentioned here in such a weak, feeble-brained post)

Zappa apparently had some type of onboard 3-band EQ installed into one of his guitars at some point with a green ringer. I'm not quite sure of the specific function or intention of this mod, other than being on a big stage and too far away from the amplifier to adjust tone controls.

Presumably he was using something a bit like one of these cheap little acoustic guitar EQ things?

Is this even practical? Has this been done before? If so, I am very interested to learn more.

I would call the necessary engineering involved a 'Commando mod' by definition. The challenge of finding an unconventional solution to a problem. Before getting started, I should ask if it's possible/practical to be done? Is it just a pile of worthless pawn shop junk in a box? Seems like it might be almost too easy, but never underestimate any small project. The inspiration was just doing something fun and see if it works.

Ok go easy on me guys!! I'm new here. Maybe there's just a DIY 3-band EQ stomp project out there you could show me, or maybe there's already a pretty good pedal out there that's exactly this.

Alright cool.

Edit* Apologies for those of you who clicked on this expecting to see photos of something already finished. Forgiveness please!

Yep, here's a recent addition: https://www.pedalpcb.com/product/pcb140/

Nothing wrong with your idea though, but without pics and other details it's tough to know how much work you'd be in for. I've ported what was originally an onboard bass preamp design into a full blown EQ pedal, but it's neither cheap, lo-fi, or a particularly easy build. ;)

Oh, and welcome to the forum!
