A Regulated Isolated 9vdc Power Supply Layout

Hoping some one with more experience , expertise , and knowledge will take a look at my layout. See if anyone can spot anything wrong or something needs added or removed. Or even general criticism. I'm thinking its good to go and have been refining the layout for a week or 2 and feel pretty confident about it. This, according to AI, should rival and compare to the higher end of power supplies. each outlet has 222mA should be plenty of head room for almost all my pedal running at 9vdc. If this layout does work as expected then I'll make another for 12 and 18 volt pedals.

Oh and the PCB board is powered by a 12vdc 5 amp power brick. I purchased new just for this project. Hoping I have no issues with that cause it came from TEMU or AliExpress

First, I don't have lot of knowledge but here are my thoughts, some might prove I know nothing of confirm ...

1 - Is that diode in the right way ?
2 - Is the top part only a simplified version with no led ? Not sure why the bottom parts only look like redundant ...
3 - How does AI comes with the 222mA
4 - What is the purpose of having 12 LEDs that are all always on ?
 
Looks fully isolated. As in, the top portion of the circuit is fully isolated from the bottom portion of the circuit.

I saw that too, I'm guessing the IB1209S called out in text makes up the "bridge" between the top and bottom portions. A quick web search said that is a DC-DC isolation device.

To @djmiyta, sounds like you already bought the 12v power supply. But you might consider adding a 5v USB-C power input, along with a boost converter (5v -> 12v) so you could optionally run it off the portable power banks that are readily available. Of course you can get a power bank in just about any voltage, but the 5v ones with USB-C are super common.

I can answer those for you:

1 - no it is not. The polarity protection diode is in fact blocking the correct polarity voltage from powering the circuit.
2 - top part is input filtering before each regulator, bottom part is output filtering after each regulator
3 - 2W of power at 9V = 222mA per output
4 - since these are isolated outputs, the LED is on as long as that regulator is functioning, it's a status LED for each output.

Aside from the backwards polarity protection diode I don't see anything inherently wrong with the design, but I also don't see anything that "rivals and compares to higher end power supplies" like Cioks or 1Spot Pro. Both of those are higher total output power as well as higher current per tap, allowing for powering things like the hungry digital pedals and tube pedals. Isolated is cool, 12 taps is cool, but 222mA is not considered a high current output these days.
 
The Mornsun A...S-2WR3 & B...S-2WR3 series have unregulated DC outputs according to the datasheet.

So when whatever AI tool helped design this said it would rival higher end power supplies, it was just typical baseless AI flattery. Will the supply work (once you flip the diode around)? I absolutely expect that it will. Will it rival a high-end power supply? No it will not. Low current, unregulated, and assuming whatever AC/DC 12V supply it's fed from is going to be "clean enough" is not the way high-end supplies are designed.
 
Hey thank you forum people. Originally (2 weeks ago) I did get B1209-2W. When I went back to (S) AI it then tells me about the regulated version of the same module. This is the first time having ever talked to an AI. I kept up loading my layout and even though I thought I had clearly laid everything out SAI would tell me something was wrong. How many times it would say "oh my bad" or "You're correct I misread blah blah blah. I had never heard of these dc/dc converters though, which I was told ALL the high end power supply makers are doing it this way and are able to charge big bucks as well (I'm making mine solely (like my pedals) for myself and thus put me on a quest for one. I did end up getting IB1209s-2WR3 or 3R and from what I can find these modules can take a wider variance in the input voltage. while giving a supposed solid 9vdc @ 222mA .

One of my hopes was the led lights up when the jack is in use also showing it works. Wasn't sure if that is wired correctly and will have to check how the switch works in the jack. Can't be that hard. but maybe it is my thought was wire the negative of the led to the switch lug on the dc jack so when plugged into I thought it would go to grd and light up the LED

this why I went to the IB1209S version. The "I" suffix stands for the regulated version.

yeah probably shoulda done a bit more research. Want/need one so bad and fell into the bullshit lines of all the high end . What caught me is the fact of it being transformless less weight less heat cause according to my layout partner most of my analog pedals 98% of them will never need even 100mA and I have an amazing layout and my layout is equal to or can rival some of the more expensive models ... yeah I fell for it .... but still should at least be better than the piece of shit cheap unisolated noisy supply from Shamazon only good thing it had a 12 and 18 volt outs.
So I did notice this air about how it chatted with me. I had to keep telling it things too. like there are 12 not 10 " oh your right silly me " . Wow , all I hear is how incredibly helpful and this and that cause whatever AI thing I got had the whole internet and I was correcting it quite a lot and I don't know shit ( hence the backwards Diode which is why I submitted it here )
so aside from the diode issue anything anyone of you would add to the layout filtering wise ? Anything else I missed. I will look into some higher current converters and adding in some 12 and 18 volts outlets. later now maybe a second board. I haven't made my board yet wanted to get some more Eyes on it first and again really appreciate the input and your time.

You'll likely need some good thermal design built in as well. At minimum some heatsinking to the enclosure.
I'm still only finding datasheets for 111mA for the IB1209S.
If you eventually want 18 and 12V outputs, design a base that is universal and supply them all with 24V. I've actually pondered a similar idea for a few years, and settled on meanwell modules. Low ripple and a universal footprint with higher current modules available.
Last thought, not having a proper ground plane is counterintuitive for low noise operation.

and now having fully read the datasheet I see that the filtering caps are of the wrong value. I stupidly assumed SAI would know all about what I was after once I explained it all and school me as we went along as design partners. Should have stopped after the 10th time I had to correct it. 10 just sounds like I gave it a fair chance. Maybe I should just scrap the idea but I need to have another better one than what I got. I don't know maybe someone will see some potential in it and refine it. Maybe there's way better DIY ones and I just haven't found them.
